factory Bimini installation for Sun Cat

For the Sun Cat Bimini?I have seen the instructions as well as some pictures and they either have the strap loops on the top or the side of the gunwales?just wondering if there is a preferred location? Im thinking the side would be more out of the way?

Just thought I  would check to see if any insight that would help me decide before I drill away....the factory instructions show on the side but than from the factory they are on the top at times.

If I get to the boat today I will check, but I am pretty sure our fore loops are on top of the combing and the aft ones are just behind. There is quite a lot of play in the strap adjustment.
