How long does the engine need to run to provide usable hot water? I don't seem to ever get hot water from running the engine. I've looked for some secret valve, but no luck so far.

I don't motor much, so maybe it takes longer than I think it should.

If I power 2000+ rpm for an hour the water is too hot to shower with, without adding cold to it.

An hour should do it, at most, with the engine under load at cruising speed. Probably less. However it takes forever - several hours - just sitting at the dock at idle speed. The little Universal just doesn't produce much heat at idle.
