Fixed Motor Mount Bracket

Hi Everybody,

I was wondering if anyone has used a fixed motor mount bracket on their sailboats. I have a 16 and I am in the process of refurbishing. In the process of removing the older adjustable motor mount, I noticed that it is pretty heavy (not to mention it slips out of its notch and drops down occasionally, shock loading the transom etc.) and combined with the 4hp Tohatsu long shaft, it ends up adding quite a bit of weight to the stern.  I thought maybe a fixed mount would weigh less.

I just installed a Garelick fixed mount bracket on my '23. My old mount was not an option for my new-to-me 4 stroke 9.9 hp Yamaha with electric start and power tilt. I bought and returned a Garelick adjustable mount bracket as I wasn't happy with the quality.

The fixed mount is extremely sturdy.

My Eclipse came from the factory with a fixed mount and it works well.  I have a long shaft Tahutsu that rarely comes out of the water so all is good.   Al

Thanks for your input, I appreciate the responses. It seems like one consideration is that if the bracket is mounted too low then the motor wouldn't be able to be tilted out of the water.

Maybe measure the outboard shaft and then the transom to the water line.

I guess it's hard to beat the endorsement of Hutchins Boat Co.

I determined the right height for the new bracket by measuring the old engine depth to the water with the old mount extended down and then transferring the measurements to the new set up.
