Forwrd Hatch Upgrade?

Inside of hatch plate, I made the plate from 1/4" birch marine plywood with several layers of glass on each side. It's glued to the underside of the rim with thickened resin. The inside of the opening has a thin strip of PVC that forms a dam for the glass layer that will be built on top of the plate. The mounting surface for the new hatch will be flat so the curved section of the rim will be cut away and wrapped with new glass and faired smooth.
