Hi. I recently joined the CPYOA forum after having been viewing it for a few months.

Upon retiring a year ago this past Spring, I sought to take up sailing again.
Then in the Fall, I purchased a lightly used 2012 Com-Pac SunDayCat, now renamed: ZigZagZen.

Yes, I know many consider it to be risking bad luck to change the name of a boat.
Yet, I considered it a worse risk of bad luck to sail a boat named after a woman other than my wife.
To mitigate the risk of bad luck though, we prepared a formal renaming ceremony.

I day-sail on Lake Macatawa with occasional excursions, through the channel, onto Lake Michigan.

Welcome, I also have the conundrum of a new to me boat with another woman's name.  But she looks, sails and feels like a Katherine.  What's a person to do?

Welcome!

I have a 2012 Sunday Cat as well.  I am, by no means, an expert on its use (or general sailing acumen for that matter).  But, I have enjoyed the Sunday Cat for its simplicity and ease.  We are in central Florida and waiting for the weather to get a little cooler before renewing our efforts to sail more often than we have been.

As I think you already know, the forum is a wealth of information — both in past posts easily retrieved by using the Search function and in future opinions and experience yet to be introduced.  Enjoy!

Welcome! I've renamed all my boats, just need to make sure you share your rum with Neptune. ;)

We did a de-naming ceremony early in our ownership of a second hand Sun Cat. Then once the new name was painted on, we had a naming ceremony. In this way you can share with Neptune (as well as the crew) twice the amount of rum and/or champagne. Both ceremonies were held in fair weather on Grand Traverse Bay.
