Tohatsu motor tilt hard to reach

Hi folks, I've been dinking around with my Tohatsu 5hp Sailpro (propane), 25".  My motor lift won't lift the foot all the way out of the water, so I usually tilt it to get it out of the water.  My problem is, both the tilt lock up and the tilt lock down are pretty hard to reach over the stern rail. I've thought about possibly attaching a chain, kinda like a toilet flapper chain, with some kind of plastic sleeve to protect the finish and to keep it from getting jammed, up to some part of the motor base, so I can reach the tilt releases more easily.

Am I covering new ground? Or does anyone have something more elegant?

Has it changed since 2015?  When at dock, I usually set mine to the first tilt which is about 45 degrees.  I have to put the gear shift in forward for it to lock at 45.  Then put it in neutral in order to get it to tilt back down.  Never have to touch the tilt lock once set.

BTW, how do you like the propane version of the Sail Pro?  Wish they would come out with a conversion package to convert gasoline units.
