A Long Summer Ahead

Well it's a long summer ahead for me as I'm having a valve replaced (heart, not sailboat) on May 30th. Sailing Mudlark won't happen this year as I'll need to take it easy until about Labor Day. Hope to get on the water later in the summer and/or fall on a friend's boat. My plans to replace the headliner, refinish the interior teak I wasn't able to remove, mount my new-to-me power tilt and trim Yamaha outboard, etc will have to wait until the fall. Oh well, at least I can hang out on the beach!

Paul,

Mixed feelings re: your impending surgery.  Bad that you need the procedure, but good that your issue can be addressed.  My Bro-in-law had a pigs valve installed 15 years ago.  He's done well with it with the only side effect being when laughs too hard he snorts.

Vicki and I will pray for your complete recovery.

Thx, I appreciate it. I may be moooo-ing if the valve comes from a cow though...

Bristol,

I had the Tavr procedure, and bounced back in about a month.  Best of luck with yours.

Can you get one of those valves from West Marine? If I am in need of the same, I'll be looking for a Dennis Connor model.

Good luck with that. We all know that we are up against the inevitable loss of physical ability to do the things we treasure, but don't let that stand in your way for now. I hope all goes well and you are back on the water soon.

Think of it this way, it may be a reason to hire others to do the stuff we used to do, or even an excuse to get a new boat, one more appropriate to our abilities.

Take care and all the best.

Good luck with the surgery.  I have two stints (got my first at 28).  Best to get those things taken care of so you have many more sailing seasons ahead!

Thx I'm sitting at the Brigham and Womens Hospital tonight catching up on the Com-Pac board. Surgery on Weds went well and hope to get home on Monday. If you need cardiac surgery, this is the place to be!

Best wishes. You picked a top place for your surgery. you must be cruising the corridors by now. Hang in there. While you'll miss this summer there should be a bunch more added on the other end.

Phillip, Junkie 19,  what is that boat in your profile picture?

philb Junkie19

It's an 1983 Compac 19 re-rigged 2 years ago with a western version of a Chinese junk rig. if you are curious about the junk rig you can find out more at http://www.junkrigassociation.org/
