i will be making the markers for the race this week and since a good friend has given me a ranger bass boat i will be able to lay out the course in advance making sure of both distance and ability of racers to actually see the marks, which has been a problem in the past. my idea for the markers is as follows: three or four brightly colored swim "noodles" bound around a piece of pvc pipe. this will have a small weight on the underside to insure it stands up vertical. beneath that will be a length of line and an anchor. attached in the middle will be a red bicycle flag. this should be visible for at least a mile (i will test it). again, racers will be given a start time (on the clock) this should take care of the ratings for each boat. sailors will be prepped at the Monday "meet and greet" and assigned a start time. we will have a practice race on Tuesday and see how everything works out. if the weather does not cooperate  for the Thursday race then Tuesdays results will be used for the awards. as i have said before the "race" is just for fun and it does make for a good photo op. also it looks like we may have a full moon that week so for those interested a night sail is a possibility. please call me when you get in so i can help rig and launch and park vehicles  317) 292-0258. call me if you have any questions.    thanks   steve and sarah bender

Steve, thanks in advance for all the work you put into this epic event. Now I ask the following question in all seriousness, as if that's possible: Is a rowing craft allowed in the race and about how far (in distance) is the race?
Thanks,
Bob23

well bob,  haven't thought of a row boat in a sailboat race but I'm sure no one would object to you rowing the course. as to the distance. I'm figuring about 4 miles should do it. i still have to rig my skeg idea. I'm sure it will work if i just have time to get it done.

Depending on wind speed, I could win! Or just take photos as you all go speeding by!! Hey, maybe our rowing race could follow the same course!!

we will come up with something. probably something unique. can you row in a pirate hat?
