Hi folks,
I'm considering a CP-19 with severe mast damage. If I go ahead with the purchase, I'll most likely be looking to replace the mast.  I see Hutchins has a complete built rig for about $1000, I'm thinking about getting just the extrusion and moving the hardware myself to cut down on cost. It sounds like these came from Dwyer, unfortunately, they don't have the spec's on file. Can anyone help me match up the extrusion type based on the dwyer page:

TIA,

Keith

Hutchins will help you out, even if you're not buying the spar from them.  I've found them very helpful.

I've been trading emails with Matt @compac .. he's been very helpful, the mast is a DM-375 and is 21 feet end to end.

the remaining question is.. can anyone with a cp-19 put a tape measure on their mast for me and give me the distance between the base of the mast and the bottom of the sail feed (gate)?

that would be very helpful.

Thanks,

Keith

Hey 5!

Why don't you stop monkeying around and go whole hog? as long as you're replacing your mast, why not eclipse your current setup and go with a mastendr setup?

Advantages:
one less stay.
boom stays on the lower mast
easy up, easy down

Disadv:
standing rigging mod
a new hole in your deck
rear arch needed (for  Boom)
Hinge needed.

probably more to discuss, but Kieth at The Sailboat Company in Richlands, NC could help you out.

Hi Tim,
I think Keith has a different solution that he recommends now. Either way at the risk of sounding cheap, my first priority is to buy the boat and make it seaworthy. It sounds like that's gonna eat up my initial budget. Once that's accomplished I'll chip away at "improvements".  The current plan is to take ownership of her Memorial Day weekend. Time is moving at a snails pace.

You could look at the 19 as a creative starting point and go for a trawler or pilothouse or build you own mast and experiment with a new rig. Someone converted a Cp16 to a gaff rig. Years ago I bought a mastless ODay 23 and had planned to convert it to a balanced lug rig with a free standing mast. Looking for a used sail I came across a new Chinese lug or junk sail. It was very different and looked complicated to rig but simple tp sail. It's benefits intrigued me and I went with that. Was happy enough with the rig that I converted my perfectly good 19 to the junk rig. Which does leave me with the mast and standing rigging for the 19 which if you were close to Maine I could let go for a lot less than what you were quoted. I had been keeping the mast to sell with the boat when I can no longer sail.  Of course I could always just hang on to the boat for an eventual, hopefully very eventual, Viking funeral but that would just get family into too much trouble.

V,
Thank you for the comment but please be careful with your words. Walking out of the room after reading it my ears scraped both sides off the doorway.
