rub rail alternative?

Finally got around to a long overdue project of removing the rub rail and resealing the hull to deck seam with a thin even layer of 5200 around the whole perimeter on my 83 19' to put an end to the occasional small leak in that area.

I have had the rub rail off for a couple weeks while doing some other projects and the looks of the boat without a thick black bumper car like piece of rubber around the whole thing has really grown on me. There are lots of companies that make various shapes of rubber extrusions and trim, but I have not come across something that is slightly lower profile or better still white or other lighter color with the right dimensions.

Has anyone else done something different than the factory rub rail?

I have a friend that replaced his with a channel cut out of fur.  The wood rail is some what smaller than the rubber and is really beautiful. He has a table saw, router, and skills...

I like the security of knowing that big black rubber bumper is there.  I wish the Picnic Cat had one also.

I do use armor all on it near start of each season.  I never thought hought about the cosmetic aspect, but now that it is out of the box, I am sure tomorrow it will be very noticeable.

All good.

Looking forward to learning your direction.

Thanks and regards,
