Our 1984  19 has probably the original motor mount. With a 2 cycle Tohatsu motor at about 50 lbs.  It gets a whole lot of wobble unless it is pushing the boat forward. This is the mount with the four lifting springs. Is there a way to tighten up the loose joints or is a replacement necessary?  How hard are the critters to replace?   Doug & Jean with Adagio.

If you have the original Garelick mount, I have some bad news for you. Garelick won't sell repair parts to end users; they believe it's too dangerous for amateurs to disassemble the mount because of the spring tension. And they don't offer factory repair on mounts of that age. I know; I went through this with my 1988 mount. Ended up buying a new one from Defender. Just search "garelick" on the Defender site. Ignore the references to 2 stroke vs 4 stroke models, just go by hp and motor weight. I ordered #302167, which matched my existing transom holes exactly.

It's pretty easy, decent arm mobility is all that's required. You should search the site as many have posted about this project. I did it last year without issue.

On the good side of the ledger for Garelick I recently called them up to buy the polymer parts that make up the handle and spacers that hold the lock handle dimensions.  Conversation with a very nice lady went like this.  Me - "After 12 years these things are starting to disintegrate".  Her -  "I'm not sure from the drawing exactly what you want so to be sure guess I'll go out to the assembly line and verify".  "What is your address".  Three days later they show up in my mail, no charge for the parts or shipping.

i have several items from an older mount in a box.  give me a day or two to dig it out and i'll post pics of what i have.

if you can use any of it, just pay the shipping.

If you end up buying new consider wider stainless steel Garelick model.  When my '83 mount wobbled too much and got hard to lift I went to the Garelick mount, 71056 that was recommended by Wes and Salty 19.  It is wider, very stable and makes lifting my 63 lb 7.5 hp 2 stroke, extra long shaft so easy.  I was advised some lighter motors might require cutting one of the springs as outlined by Garelick.  Looks like the holes line up on later model 19's but I had to drill new ones.  Let's see if my photo of the two mounts side by posts
The prices of the narrow aluminum and stainless models are basically the same.

Thanks to all for your advise, and a special thanks to crazycarl for his input, but there is no need for you to go to the trouble. I will consider a replacement of the mount. A sail yesterday in fair winds proved that the motor isn't going overboard. Doug

I have a generic ebay mount used a few times I will sell you VERY cheap if you want it...

I pulled the one off my 23 which is a garelick so I'm going to use that instead. I bought it new off ebay and used it probably 4 sailing trips, still looks brand new, PM me for info if interested
