Any thoughts on using a 23 rudder on a 16? I have a foiled 23 blade that I was going to use on my 23 but that boats on the way out, wondering about putting it on the 16.

What I know... The rudder bade is too thick to slide into the 16 housing, the 23 rudder is different then the 16, I could macguyver the two together or I can put the entire 23 assembly in the transom, the bolt pattern is different though and that would require new holes...

Or I can sell it and take a hit and just eventually buy the 16 foiled rudder unless anyone would want to trade..

Any thoughts? My main thought is a slight hit in drag and more Lee helm as the balance would move backwards...

How much longer is a 23 rudder than the 16's? Just a little bit of extra surface area underwater increases drag quite a bit. Your gains from having a foiled rudder would probably be offset by the increase in drag. I'm no naval architect but I don't think it would be worth the time spent doing the modifications unless the rudders  are very similar length.

Its like 16 3/4" deeper... I'm going to try and sell it and just buy the real 16 rudder... Easiest, simplest... just not the cheapest
