CP23 vs. CP27 cockpits

Is it my imagination or is the cockpit in the 23 just as big, maybe even bigger, than on the 27?   And for that matter, the foredeck on both appear to be about the same size.   Is 100% of the extra length in the cabin of the 27?

I've never been on a 27, but I've always thought the 23 has a MASSIVE cockpit for its size, the entire boat feels rather large for its size

If you scale both renderings and compare side by side it's pretty clear the cockpits, and foredeck, are at least very close to the same length.

Attached is a picture of my CP-23 "Cool Change" rafted with Charlie Deisher's "Windrunner", a CP-27. From our observations, the cockpits are about the same size. If I remember correctly, Charlie gave the cockpit cushions from "Windrunner" to someone with a Com-pac 23 and they said the cushions fit well.

How long are the vberths on both boats?

I was the recipient of Charlie's cushions.  Believe it or not, the cushions are 6" short on my 19.  However, I'm considering changing to mid-boom Sheeting with a traveller mounted on the bridge deck, so the shorter cushions are perfect.

Thanks again CD6!

OK, I was moved to actually check some of my thoughts with a tape measure.

The '86 C-27 has a bridge deck traveler so the cushions would be a little shorter than the seat.

The C-16 and C-23 may have the same size cockpits.  I have made several deck grates for C-16,23, and 27's.  The one from our C-23 hangs on the wall, I couldn't bear to sell it with the boat.  It was also a coffee table top for awhile.

Cockpit measurements for deck grates: C-23 (21 X 52);  C-27 (23 X 54.75)
Pretty close...wonder what a C-16's measurements are?

The V-berth measures 78 X 78 inches, like an isosceles triangle, base and altitude.

A deck grating on a C-16 elevates the feet enough that a little water coming in though the scuppers is not a problem.
I like deck grates because they cover up the crap that gathers in the bottom of the cockpit.  You can take them out occasionally and hose everything off.

the 23 cockpit is much different then a 16, It may be longer, it may be slightly wider as far as a cockpit grate is concerened, but the actual volume and height is worlds different, I was sitting on my 16 cockpit sanding away yesterday then sat in my 23 cockpit to drink a beer as soon as I was finished, huge difference...

Thanks everyone.

Slode and Razor, those side by side comparisons are really interesting.  And useful. Appreciate it.
