My new '81 CP16

Hi!  I'm new to the group and would like to introduce myself.  My name is Don Stamm. I'm retired and living in Jamesport NY on the Great Peconic Bay.  Ive been mostly a dinghy sailor but find I'm getting a bit stiff for all that activity and I'm ready for a keelboat.  I recently picked up my '81 Compac 16.  It had been sitting on its trailer in the shso I can ade for about 15 years.  The 4 HP Johnson is 20 years old but has about 2 hours on it. Looks and runs like new and is still breaking in.  The boat is in great shape and after a good cleaning looks ready to go .  The trailer keel bunk is rotten and I will change all and replace the bunk supports as soon as I get the boat in the water so I can work on the trailer.  Looking forward to sailing her on the East End bays of Long Island and seeing her come to life again after all those years.  Hull # is 1445 and we're still working on a name.
Does anyone have ideas on the best way to get the boat off the trailer.  I like to store it in the garage over the winter so I can work on her at my liesure and in some comfort.

Congrats Don, and welcome...

I made the mistake of not throughly inspecting the trailer before I got her bottom wet.  After I put the boat in, I was amazed at the bad shape and missing metal.  I am glad I did not hurt anyone. 

If you can, use a mirror to see as much as you can of the trailer.  I am sure all is probably good, but I learned a real lesson.  My trailer looked good form the top.

The next trip with trailer was to recycling center...

Welcome and best of fun doing this restore

do you really need to get it off the trailer?
if so and you want it in the garage, this will be a slow process

let me think it out

but if you get it off a trailer, then you will still need to
keep it at height and stablize from port to starboard
this with require some stanhions with 1 ft sq pads

again ...does it need to come off the trailer?
changing all the bunks and guide boards can be done without doing this
(it has been detailed in CP 16 forum)
