Hi everyone. I hope y'all are all enjoying some sailing. I am trying to keep as much room in my vbirth of my 84 16 and I want easier access to my anchor. I am the only compac 16 sailer that I have seen in my area so I don't have any other boats to look at , so how are y'all storing your anchors?

Thanks in advance for the imput .

My anchor came with the rode stored in a 5 gallon bucket.  I don't know that I would recommend this setup, but it works well enough for lunch in a calm cove or the lee of an island.  Tie off the end, drop the anchor, set, and cleat it off on a stern cleat.

I'm intrigued to see what is working for others on the site.  It would be nice to have something mounted more permanently up on the bow so I wasn't swinging around up front with a bucket when anchoring in wind.  There was a post on here with a homebuilt anchor mount/bowspirit combo, but it looks like those images may have disappeared ala photobucket.

My 16 has a bowsprit with roller and the anchor stays there. The rode lives in a five gallon bucket and goes up to the deck via a cowl vent just behind the bowsprit. The rode bitter end is tied to the handle on the bucket. Perhaps not the most traditional setup, but it works.

I spoke with Gerry at Com-Pac on this very subjecthe recently.  I have a 1991 CP 16 111 with a bow sprit and anot anchor. Have not figured out exactly where to store the anchor yet, but he reccomended a rope and chain deck plate with the hinged cover installed on the deck.I would guess you could have a 5 gallon bucket below it in the forepeak to store the rope and chain and catch any water. These are reasonably priced and available on eBay or from Defender, West Marine etc.

We keep our Danforth on top of a small holdall which contains 10 metres of chain plus 30 metres of octoplait.  Lives in the cockpit for sailing and on foredeck for anchoring.
