Just wanted to pass this along...skimming Craigslist tonight and saw this ad for an '80 C16. 950.00 w/trailer. Just went up a few hours ago, in Tallahassee, FL.  I tried to convince the Admiral that we need another 16 and trailer...for...you know...parts. Or emergencies. No dice.

Seadub-

I have learned something over the years that I would like to share with you. It's extremely important, and quite applicable to this situation.

Whenever considering anything to do with a sailboat,  DO NOT CONSULT WITH THE ADMIRAL FIRST!!!!

Just bring it home like a lost puppy and take whatever licking you'll get.

Oh, and don't be afraid to lie about the price or make up a long, but believable story along the way about how it followed you home.

Just trying to help for the next time this situation occurs. Let me know if you need a creative story, or better yet ask Tim Gardner.  He is the master at this technique.

At your service,

Salty19.

Perfect and sound advice from Salty. I used this technique when I bought a Force 5 years ago. The boat is gone. The wife is still here.
If only this were in NJ, I could put his advice to work. Dang. Like I need another boat...

This boat looks like a steal.  Wonder if my Admiral would let me buy a boat to keep for our winters in Florida.

Big Fear ~

I'm afraid that after my demise my wife will SELL all my "things" at a giant garage sale

.... and price everything based on what I TOLD her I paid for them.   ! !    :^(

EXCELLENT advice, Salty. I'll take in consideration and will plan to seek your further advice if and when I take it.

Salty's advice is spot on!  It is based on one of the primary rules that govern my life in all matters.  It is far easier to get forgiveness than it is to get permission.

Chuck,

I share the same fear.   I did make the mistake of telling her how much I actually paid for a new Martin Guitar last year.  I kept saying, oh it wasn't too much and, LOOK, a squirrel..it sounds great! We use separate credit cards so she never sees what I really spend, not that I go overboard anyway.

The real price, about $1900, slipped out by accident when she made an offhand comment "It's not a stradivarius!", after observing how I treat it.    Oops.  Here she is clipping coupons, shopping the clearance rack, and saving money while I'm dropping thousands on a "toy".     Those that know Martins will attest that $1900 is not an expensive one, and will probably be worth double that in 10 years since it's a limited edition.   That's the story and I'm sticking to it!

That sweet 16 probably sold within hours. Looked like it was in decent shape, trailer too. Hopefully, somebody will show up here with a great story and a "new" boat!

Gotcha Kickingbug!  Sorry again that we will miss CLR;  we trailered the HC down to her new home in Punta Gorda week before last.  She is very happy, no more flying carp or muddy Illinois River water
