This is ridiculous.  I can't figure out how to post pics to this sight.  I have read and followed Skip's instructions.  I have read Tim's instructions and tried to follow.  Nothing works because my screens from photobucket shows different instructions than what you folks suggest. I think the problem is lack of use.  I post pics about once a year.  Can't some one develop a simple method of posting pics like e-mail or FB does. We should be able to type our descriptions and with one click insert pics directly from our computer picture file...like an attachment.  Come on geniuses; make it simple for we simpletons.

Gerry,
Can you take a screen shot of what you're seeing in Photobucket, then post it here so we can help? (I'll duck while you throw something at me.)

In Photobucket:
1) Click a picture to view it singly.
2) On the right side of the page, see the SHARE THIS PHOTO section?
3) Click once in the field next to IMG (it begins with [URL...). That copies the link.

Paste the copied link in your CPYOA message. When you post your message, we'll see your picture.

Hope that works for you! (I'll send you the bill for the lump on my head.)

When you bring up an individual pic in Photobucket does it not give you five options for sharing to the right of the picture?  The second one is "direct" and you simply hit that box and observe it changing colors (yellow for mine) and indicating "copied".  At this point you hit the picture button on your CPYOA post, make sure your cursor is between the two bracketed img boxes and "paste".  It will show up as a URL on your post until you either preview or post it, then you see the picture.

The reason it cannot be a simple attachment is that pictures take up too much space on the site so they have to remain resident elsewhere, in your case your Photobucket account.  They are not actually in memory on CPYOA just the link to your Photobucket pic is.

Gerry, I used my phone earlier today and had no trouble at all. Actually, it was easier than using the computer. You can see how the links look at my "Wren Update" post:

"Well, that was easy. I uploaded a few photos to my Photo bucket account, went to the "before" pic, pressed and held it on the phone, clicked "Copy Link Address", pressed and held it on the CPYOA "New Topic" message screen, and pasted it into the message."

Clint, you're leading that poor boy astray.  You're not posting pics you are posting links.  He is asking how to post pics so that the readers will not have to go through the process of clicking on each individual link to see the pic.  Very inconvenient particularly if the link takes you to a popup laden site.  Back to school my friend.:)

Fair enough, Brackish. I'm usually so glad to even see a link to a photo, that I blurred the line. Still hoping I can figure out how to use my phone to post pics, not links.

Not to worry either method above, mine or ChuckD's will work.  His is faster.  When I first started posting that fifth option (IMG) was not available on Photobucket, I just tested it and it works with one less step.  You don't have to push the button that puts the bracketed "img" s on the page.

It should work fine with an android device.  If my phone wasn't so old and slow I'd test it.

And keep in mind that you guys have got to learn this.  We're depending on you.  Bob23 currently holds the record for longest period of time without knowing how to post pictures, five years I think.  He desperately wants someone to take that record.  So if anyone starts to come close, we'll have to send out a private tutor to handle the situation.:)

BTW nice work on Wren.

Okay! Back to school I went. Learned a few things, modified my posts so the links are gone and pics are right there. Gerry, Brackish is spot on...followed his advice to you and had no problem.

You're doing great, Seadub. It took me over 2 years to figure it out with the help of the patient sailors here.

Great pic Bob, looks like all that accumulated knowledge is paying off for newbs like me. Of course, basdd on the picture I have a question about the boat. Is that line through the transom attached to the rudder on the other end?

Bob23

Very observant you are, young skywalker!
That line is a downhaul for my wood foiled rudder. The rudder gudgeon is mounted on a piece of marine plywood with a groove ploughed out in the back to allow the line to run down and exit near the bottom and attach to the rudder blade. It works only ok because the rudder has mucho positive floatation due to the fact that it's filled with foam. I now use a hold down bracket along with this. But this works great when I want to sail or motor with the blade part way up in shallow water, like when approaching an anchorage.

...."I don't know how to post photos but next time I go out I plan to take some pictures.  If another member would be willing, I could e-mail them for posting." If you can e~mail pics, you can post 'em on CPYOA.

Nothing to it.
The pictures you want to show on CPYOA must come from a OFF LINE photo sharing site. There are many. I picked PHOTOBUCKET for my 1100+ pictures. First you must scan a picture from camera or printer and upload it to your Photobucket account. It's free to use this PHOTOBUCKET.

Each picture on Photobucket will display a pull down menu when the mouse's cursor is parked on the picture that you want to show on CPYOA.

Read the menu. Pull the cursor down to the DIRECT CODE found under the picture. Click on the DIRECT CODE, it will show the word 'COPIED' an the word will fade away. Not necessary, but as a precaution, I always go up on click on EDIT and COPY, just to be sure the DIRECT CODE was copied.

Minimize this window. Bring up the post that you want to put a picture into.
ABOVE every box or post that you typed a message into are two lines of icons.

Bottom Line, second from left going to the right you'll see a picture [it's to the right of what looks like a round red/blue pinwheel.] The icon you want kind of looks like a beach with a hill and some trees, blue sky. Click on that.

In your post you'll see something like this  [ img ]  [/ i m g ]  the space between the two [  ]  [  ]   is where you PASTE the DIRECT CODE that you copied.

It's actually pretty hard to place the blinking cursor 'tween the two box's if your old like me. If you don't get ALL of the DIRECT CODE into the right spot you'll only see a square box with a red X in it after you push post and go backand look~see at what the message to the group looks like.

Multiple pics can be posted by going back up to the 'Beach Icon' and selecting and coping and pasting another DIRECT CODE from the PHOTOBUCKET album .

skip.
