Hello All,
I hope everyone is doing well.  I am on my second year without a sailboat and I am still suffering serious withdraws.  Considering I rarely use the powerboat (gasp), I know that it is better that I am waiting to jump into another sailboat.

My daughter turns 1 at the end of the week.  She is doing well.

I can't wait to return to sailing.  This has been a rough few years for that and this year, to add to the mix, my aunt and uncle sold their Catalina 34 and a sailing friend of mine passed away.  My aunt and uncle are swallowing the anchor after many years of cruising the Chesapeake Bay and I would often meet up with them while I was out cruising.

Hopefully sometime in the next few years I can find a way to move back into a sailboat.  I am not sure what I am going to go for but it will probably be something a bit bigger than my 23.  As always when you pay about $1000 in daycare a month, I am not sure what my budget will be able to fit.

Hope all is well with everyone.  Other than sailing withdraws I am getting a long just fine.

Always good to hear from you...and happy all is well! Maybe you should talk to Kev about his Cape Dory 26. She's a fine boat, I'd buy her myself if I were moving up and she's quite the looker and sailer, too. Lots of room below.
Best,

(ps: monitor the Barnegat Bay Bash thread- we'd love to have you join us for the Friday night dinner!!)

Hey Heave, so glad to hear from you! I know you will find a way to balance everything in due time. Remember we gave up sailing for over 25 years because of careers, family, and if you think getting a boat is dumb, try buying a farm! The one thing that does come to mind when we reflected on that choice, was wishing we had kept our little boat even though she would have been little used for a few years. It would have been a wonderful activity to do with our son as he grew up. That boat was a Compac 16 so little cost, little maintenance and great for teaching sailing. Maybe instead of bigger than a 23 possibly smaller for a while till that timing for a larger boat happens? At least in our case it had to wait 25 years. Too long!

Regardless sending well wishes and hoping that daughter of yours finds herself at the tiller of a boat some day along with you.

Thanks guys!

Zoe turned one last Friday.  That is pretty crazy that she is now one year old.  Of course this means that the toddler years have started and she is already acting like she is in her terrible twos!

Part of me really regrets selling Saga.  The simple truth is that she just wasn't the right boat.  Stepping down from the Catalina 30 to the Compac 23 was way too drastic of a step.  I was use to standing headroom and a separate head, two things I absolutely missed.  The Compac 23 was an amazing sailor though and she probably would have been okay for a few years.  Truth is, I would have probably had a hard time even launching her right now because I can't seem to even get down to the Powerboat right now.

Ah, none the less, I plan to keep you guys posted.
