Hi folks, just a quick note to say that I am now officially one of Yours, having just brought home my prize, a 2001 Compac 19 (HIN ABV19620D101 - which I assume signifies that she is hull number 620?), fitted with a stainless steel centerboard.  She sits in my driveway in Kemptville, Ontario, after a (thankfully) uneventful trip from Skaneateles, NY (birthplace of the legendary Lightning!).    Its a wee bit cold here today, so not much crawling around to take full stock of my newest acquisition, but you can bet that will soon be rectified with the inevitable upward creep of the thermometer.   Oh, but her fetching good looks do beckon from the warmth of my living room window....

Doubtless the coming weeks will evince many stupid questions to this group as I blunder through the discovery of her more impenetrable intricacies.

My boat shall be re-baptized to bear the moniker "Restless", to reflect her owner's nautically obsessive temperament (she is the 13th sailboat of my last two decades - though the thrill waxes strongly now as ever it did the first time I brought home a nautical ideal!).

I would love to hear from any of my fellows who cleave the waters of the Thousand Islands region of the St. Lawrence River.

Best regards,
Burton Blais

Welcome Burton:
I think you have a rare 19 there. Don't think many were made with a centerboard. We don't mind stupid questions as long as you can endure even stupider answers!
I'm glad you've owned so many boats. When the Admiral accuses me of having too many, I'll point to you!!!!
Welcome...looking forward to hearing of your adventures.

Your boat is so rare, (only 4 made with a centerboard) Bob23 forgot to bill you for your membership fee.
Bob, you now owe the 5000 clams to me HA HA HA HA H...Cough Cough,  (knocking on door)  Who is it?  Vinnie who?  Ow! I need that leg!

Good morning Burton.   I sense a great deal of excitement on your part!   I would love to say that I have sailed the thousand island area, but that remains a dream for now..  in fact, the dream is to put our boat,  Adigio,  in the Erie Canal, and beginning a cruise that would end up at the same place..    some call it the little loop..   from the canal  head to  lake Ontario and then down the  St lawrence to the richelieu canal and into lake Champlain..  down the champlain canal and back to the erie canal...    i guess one would have to be retired in order to complete the trip... wait a minute..  i am kind of retired  :)       so.. if i ever get this worked out.. we will get in touch as we pass through the thousand islands!      looking forward to hearing about your adventures this summer..  best of luck..    jt

Thanks, Bob, and the best part is, my wife has allowed me to keep my Beachcomber Dory (featured in the March/April issue of small Craft Advisor), which I originally thought I would have to sell to underwrite the Compac 19 purchase!  Kinda like having my cake and eating it too....

That sounds like a very cool cruise.  I'm planning my retirement for 5-7 years from now, so shall eagerly follow your enterprise to consider how it might play into my bucket list...

Please do give me a shout when you come through the Islands, and maybe I could launch somewhere upstream, say in Kingston,  and shadow you part of the way down the river...

Cheers

Hi Frank,  is your boat a Compac 19?  We have a group of local boat nerds called the Ottawa Smallboat Messabout you might want to check out (http://www.workingsail.com/messabout/index.html)
