Trailer

Recently purchased a Compac16.  Sailed beautifully. Yesterday the stem connecting the hitch to the main trailer frame broke in half.  Hours of on site fabrication got us back home safe.  Now, the hunt for a trailer for the 16.  Any suggestions on where to begin?  A new one will run abt 1600.00.  Thoughts of taking a trailer locally and fabricating new cradle post seems difficult and might run into as much as a new purchase.  Grateful the break happened in the parking area 10 miles from home.  Could have been a disaster on the highway.  The stem showed no signs of weakness.  Any ideas will be appreciated.  Thanks.

Is the trailer unfixable?  A local fabricating shop might be able to repair the trailer to better than new.  Failing that, I have seen very many trailers on Craigslist that would work for a CP 16.   Yes, you would have to mount bunks and a keel bed, but that shouldn't be too difficult.

I'm in Macon,Ga.  I am considering fabricating one.  Certainly cheaper than a new one.  I greatly appreciate the feedback.  The weak area was 36 inches aft of the hitch.  Maybe fabricating a new stem from the main body of the trailer to the hitch.  Seems possible.  I'll call around locally.

I have to replace the tongue on my Hutchinson trailer before next summer myself.  Well, I really don't have to,  but I will none the less.  It is one of the easiest repairs that you can do on a trailer.  I have already measured mine, so the next step is to buy the replacement at our local handyman steel retailer, drill a few holes, and viola.  I will have to paint the new part also, so it will have to wait until I bring the Compac  into my boat shop later this winter.

I just bought a cp16 1978
The trailer need bunks mounted and I need to know how high from base (trailer frame) and how far a part the bunks need to be.
The boat is in the water at a lake and the trailer has 2x10 boards mounted with the long 2 inch edge as the support for the boat hull.
Anyway, rectangle 2 inch x 4ft long surface and curved hull looks like hull will be damaged on first trip.
If anyone will give me measurements I would be grateful.
