I'm a fairly new Cp23-3 owner and I'd like to update my nav light fixtures to LED.  Hellamarine 3562's are installed for the stern and bi-color bow light and an Aqua Signal for the anchor light.

I just got my boat plastic wrapped for the winter and am going to work on it this spring. What I've learned since plastic wrapping it is that the LED fixtures I've found online are all larger then the lights I took off and I'm not sure they'll fit in the allotted area.

All that said, has anyone changed the entire fixture (not just the bulb) and if so, what fixtures did you find that fit and worked well?

Thanks.

First things first: Welcome cpak! Here you'll find both kinds of answers to all your questions: right and wrong!  I got my anchor light from Duckworks.   http://www.duckworksbbs.com/hardware/electrical/sd400010/index.htm   It has worked out great!   The stern light I don't remember where I got it from.
So tell us, where do you sail?

Thanks for the info, I'll check that out. I'm here in Alaska and had my boat in Big Lake last summer.

Great! Love to see some Alaska pics...it's on my list of places that I should see but may never make it to.  There are a lot of 23 owners here so any question you can dream up we'll be happy to answer. Welcome aboard!!!!

Pretty sure after much net surfing that I'll go with interior and nav lights from Marine Beam.

Hello All, just spoke with the folks from Hutchins to see what they are currently using and was surprised that they are not using LED on the new boats. They indicated that the savings in current draw is very slight and the expense not worth it. I know boat manufactures are trying to save money where they can to be competitive but was surprised to hear that. So how much current draw am i saving if i convert to LED? I have been posting about solar system choices because we wish to go off grid for days at a time but would rather spend monies elsewhere if LED's simply don't save that much.

Any thoughts?

Depends upon how many lights you have on and what bulbs are in them. I think most of the fixtures in my 23 were between .75 to 1 amp each. 4 interior lights, 2 navigation lights, 1 steaming light and an anchor light. Just having all the interior lights on is more draw than a fridge would be. LEDs around about .1 amp each.

Check out replacement LED bulbs at:

Hey Shawn, look like we are the two on the 23 forum a lot tonight! Just saw your reply. Ditto on the navigation, steaming and anchor lights. Two cabin lights. one is the original square white plastic light and another cabin roof light. Let's face it, incandescent lights burn electricity to make heat which happens to have a by product of light!

With that said, i am one of the folks that bought up a ton of incandescent bulbs before they stopped making them. We use dimmers on almost everything and have incandescent bulbs that are over 20 years old and still working. We don't like bright lights unless they are needed. I generally dislike the appearance of LED and am not sure they are dimmer friendly? Don't care if nav, anchor lights are bright, bright is good there and certainly are not going to dim them, but cabin lights are another matter. Are your lights really white and bright?

Thanks
