Glad to be part of the group.  Finished my ASA 101 class Saturday, drove to Central Florida Sunday and picked up a beautiful 1981 Compac 16.  Simply beautiful and ready to sail.  Thanks to the seller being a considerate Compac sailor, we set the Compac up in his yard and went over the rigging.  After a good cup of coffee I headed back to Macon with great aspirations and plans to sail in our lakes close to home.  Pics to follow as soon as I get in the water.  Looking forward to learning and reading your post.  This web site was so helpful in my making my final decision on the sailboat for me. I am grateful for all of the input from your post.

Dale.  Sounds great and welcome.  Nothing like a new (to you) boat to get the juices running.  I know that you will have years of sailing in your boat.  I have no experience in a Com Pac 16 other than to admire them from afar.  Lots of experience here on the board though.  As you sail, make sure to post your experiences and your questions.  It has been my experience that someone has had the same problem and cured it.  No sense re-inventing the wheel.  Enjoy and welcome.  Al

Welcome to the group on behalf of the Fleet Admirals (moderators)!  I trust if you have been lurking a while, you know to beware the Jaberwocky (Bob23), the site's financial enfor--, um, administrator.

All kidding aside, glad you made it here, Dale.

Welcome. The ComPac 16 is a great little boat and I am sure you will not be disappointed.
That said if you can find another C-16 owner somewhere local it would be a smart move to use them on your first launch and recovery as you'll learn most of  the tricks in one go!

Welcome aboard.

Sailing isn't a hobby, it is a way of life.  You will learn what that means as you begin to sail more and more.

Compacs are great boats that are still supported by their builder.  If you have questions they are an amazing resource.  I have met one of the brothers that founded the company and he was very cordial and full of information.

Good luck and, again, welcome.

Hey Dale,

congrats on the boat. We cut our teeth on a CP16 many years ago. They are wonderful vessels and will give you much sailing pleasure. We now have returned to the fold and now have a CP23 which is the big brother to the 16. Same designer, many similar handling characteristics.

cheers to you!

Welcome, Dale!
Well, we already know you're a great guy- you love your Compac and coffee! Being the self proclaimed Minister of Financial Acquisitions, we normally charge a $5000.00 cash only initiation fee which is levied right after we accept you  into the family. But, hey, thanksgiving is right around the corner and I'm feeling charitable so I'll tell you what I'm gonna do: We're gonna change the fee to $5500.00. The "family" thanks you for understanding. And welcome!!! My Uncle Tim "The Gardener" will be in touch regarding the details of payment. He doesn't look Italian but trust me, you don't want to cross him!!!

Dale: hope you have a good sense of humor- you'll need one to survive around here!!!!

I was off on "business". Just bought a boot factory which will merge with my concrete business.

The initiation fee sounds quite reasonable......I'll look around for my pen and check book....it's got to be here somewhere...probably where I lost my 25 ft. ladder that's somewhere in my workshop....
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
