My friend Steve is still learning to use his drone.  He moves it around a bit too much, but its not too bad for a first sailing drone video.  My daughter and I were out sailing...very light winds, although after the video we went outside the break water and the winds were about 10 knots and we had a great sail.

Nice video! One of the things that jumped out at me is how well(as I too discovered) the HC moves in near-glassy conditions. Even in light air the HC tacks easily. Sitting on the lee side to induce a little heel like you guys did helps sail shape and narrows the beam a bit. Because of her hull shape a little heel makes a big difference in the wetted area on the HC. The boat looks beautiful (of course I am a little biased)! Have fun!
PS: The folks on the T.S. Catboat forum would really enjoy the vid too!

Rob:  I am impressed with the ability of the drone pilot to control both the quad and the camera.  I fly a few different quads and do not think I have the guts to fly over water!  That is my first problem.  LOL  but not my only one.  Good looking boat.  That is a video to keep for ever.  I would love one of my Eclipse.  Maybe I could hire your friend over the winter when I am down in Florida with the boat.      Al

Yes, the Horizon Cat and Day Cat sail very nicely in light wind...just sit on the leeward side of the boat and the sail fills out great!
My friend Steve has only done a small handful of Drone videos, and is getting good at it.  He wants to shoot another one of the boat with some good wind.  He was a bit nervous flying over water, but he got over it.

Here is an undated/edited version of the video.  Actually I spliced a few of the videos together, and took out the boring parts...also added some good music.

Great edit.  Really enjoyed watching it.  Where was this taken?

Milwaukee, WI.  Usually there is lots of wind.  Rob

I wondered about the harbor.  I live down in Illinois (Elgin) and sail on the Chain of Lakes.  Pistakee Lake is where the Eclipse is in a slip.

Do you ever go out on Lake Michigan.  The Milwaukee harbor is great.  If waves are bad, we just sail inside the breakwater, which is a huge space.  My favorite is to sail 5-10 miles out on the lake.  It's a wide open space, and it's usually one tack out and one tack in.

Hey rbh:
Great video.  Thanks for posting.  Very impressed with the stability of the camera.

Charlie,
Thanks!  More to come.  Want to do some with some wind.
These drones are pretty amazing.  They are gimbaled so that even if they are blown around by wind, the image is very stable.

I'm amazed by the image stability. Got a bad case of Drone Lust now! My geek friends say the correct term is "UAV" - unmanned aerial vehicle. Unless of course it's also equipped with a Hellfire missile...

The stability is due to the gimbaling of the camera.  The drone could be bounced around by gusty winds, and the image will be perfectly smooth.
