A short Journey, an Anchorage and no Destination

Elk River

Being waylaid by some neighbors, we didn't get to slip our lines until just before sundown.  No choice but to motor as there was very little, if any, wind.  We knew we weren't going far with only about two inches of gas at the most.  We motored down river perhaps four miles and slipped into Piney Creek Cove, having decided on the way down to spend the night on the boat.  We dropped anchor just outside the grass line and with the westerly, knew we wouldn't get blown into the grass.  A very pleasant night was spent with only two or three heavy rolly-polly instances when heavy commercial traffic went up or down the bay out in the channel.  Nothing to alarm us or throw us out of the v-berth.  Nice, cool temperature at night made for good sleeping.  A simple breakfast and then we sailed off the anchor, headed down river another mile before turning around to head back up river and back to our slip.  The wind was up and down and a bit shifty, but the engine wasn't called upon until we had to drop sails and motor into the slip.  A little slow at times against the ebb, but the wind held enough to get us back.  All in all, a nice journey, anchorage with no destination.

     Fair winds to all,

Very nice account of a simple and satisfying journey! Thank you.

Agreed.  Sounds like good weather and a peaceful night.  I love looking up at the stars when out at anchor.
