When to reef and other stuff.

I know standard answer is when I think about it. I did think about it before venturing out but glad I didn't chicken out. I took Olaf out today for 2 hrs in 10G16 winds felt very stable with standard main and jib. I would just turn upwind if a gust started to heel me past ~15 degrees, no problem! What range of forecast winds would you think about putting a reef in keeping in mind I'm in a CP-16. What do I use for reef ties? I'm thinking shoelaces but feel free to enlighten me! Also on another note the C-16 heaves to very well I practiced that today and sat very calmly 45-50degrees off the wind slowly drifting downwind a knot or two in 2 foot waves. Pulling jib sheet tight brings the bow more into wind and loosening it starts you more downwind. Definitely keep it tight, Very cool sail today! TIA

Just watch out for your teeth if your hands are wet/slippery...those hard plastic balls can knock out an incisor before you know it.

Those mini bungees are very useful for all kinds of tie-downs. But, a word of caution - at the end of the season, get rid of them and buy new ones for next season. Same goes for any bungees used. I like using them, but realize that UV takes its toll and makes them unsafe after a season.
