The Shark Lady Passes

Dr Eugenie Clark (1922-2015)

In 1961, when I was 14 years old,  I spent a summer as an NSF intern at the Cape Haze Marine Laboratory then located at Siesta Key, Florida, whose director was Eugenie Clark.  She was an expert SCUBA diver, a great scientist, and a beautiful lady.  I fell in love with her immediately, and I still am.

RIP, Genie. You will be missed.

As a marine biology major at the University of Miami I also got to know this wonderful, beautiful lady.  Agreed she will be missed.

I am currently a docent at Mote.  She will be missed, but her work lives on.

It's amazing, how three of us here were touched by this remarkable lady.  We're all fortunate to have known her.

Thanks for sharing this. As a biology teacher here in NYC, it's always amazing to hear stories about nyc natives who grow up in the city and still find a passion for nature and wildlife. I'll be sure to share the article with my students tomorrow.
