Thanks for the tip on the TENs units.  I had never heard of them, but today, as a result of your posting, I ordered a combination TENS/EMS unit with a 45day return policy.  Definitely worth a try.  Thanks again!

I used a TENS unit years ago before they were strictly street legal in this country.  They work pretty well.  One thing that my therapist told me was that they aren't something to rely on every day.  Use it to get pain relief in the context of helping your back relax and heal.  You might find that if you rely on it all the time you might get immune to its effects and thereby lose some of the impact.  I used mine off and on for about six months until my back had a chance to heal a bit.  I would not hesitate to go back to using one if I needed to, but I would be pretty unhappy about that turn of events.
