I am starting to plan a trip this coming year in May 2015.  The current proposal is to leave on May 25, Memorial Day.  I will be leaving out of Colonial Beach on that day and heading for one of a few places (Smith Creek, MD Side of the Potomac River near Point Lookout OR the Coan River, Virginia Side of the River).  The destination would actually be determined by the forecast wind direction for the next day (South favors the Virginia Side, North favors the MD Side).

Tuesday the 26th of May we would leave for Tangier Island.  We would meet at Parks Marina on Tangier Island.  The nice thing about being the day After Memorial Day is that there won't be many people out there.

After Tangier there is some discussion about going across to Onancock or going North to Smith Island.  The Smith Island idea may not happen because boats with deeper drafts won't do well in that location.  Onanock would be to the East.

If you are coming into the area for a trip like this there are a few options for launching.  You could launch at Point Lookout State Park.  There are also marinas and ramps on the Virginia Side off of the Little Wicimico.  This also a place on the Coan River and Port Kinsale Marina has a ramp (I used it once about 10 years ago and it as plenty deep for my Hunter 22).

If I am not in a slip and decide to trailer sail, I may consider launching out of Point Lookout State Park.

Let me know if anyone is interested in going.  I have some other sailors from my area considering this as well.
