Legacy Garage Fit

Anyone had problem fitting a Legacy (on trailer) inside a "standard"  garage ?
(20' 6" long with 6' 11" door clearance.)  Note: will have folding trailer tongue.

Hi Tom,

Sorry no one responded to your E-mail that has direct knowledge about whether the Legacy will fit.  I'm not sure either.  And I'm going to try doing that when I move my boat from Delaware to it's new Florida winter home near Charlotte Harbor over Thanksgiving.

I only tried getting the boat/trailer in a one car garage once before, but I was only concerned that the cockpit was out of the sun while working on it, so I didn't try to get the whole boat in the garage.  At least the height was (barely) good to get the mast under the garage door laying across the bow and stern rails.  Width was no problem, but again, I didn't pull it all the way in (as there's lot of crap in the back of the garage also.)

Once I try it over Thanksgiving, I hope to have a good answer for you, if it's not too late.   By the way, I have the Magic Tilt trailer spec'ed by Hutchins that unlike the name states, does not tilt nor fold.  In Florida, I have a 2 car garage, and if it doesn't fit in pulling it in straight, I will try it diagonally across both car bays to keep it out of the sun and away from mischief.

Until then, I hope someone answers who has direct knowledge provides an answer.

Hi Tom,

My Legacy is almost exactly 21 foot 6 inches long in the shed. That is with the outboard, which I never take off, mounted on the stern on an adjustable bracket and mast in its travelling position. Using the standard outboard bracket would reduce this by a couple of inches and if you took the outboard off you'd gain about a foot. Maximum height is about 6 foot 8 to the top of the front pulpit.  You need about 9 feet in width to allow you to walk down the side of the boat when it is in the shed.

No problem. My 2014 Legacy on the factory trailer with the folding tongue fits with no problems.
It's actually a three car garage and I store the boat in the single stall. I manually wheel the trailer in and out without issue. I've marked the floor where the trailer front wheel should stop so I don't go to far in.  Also, with the mast down, I make sure that the base of the mast is aligned with the joint on the trailer tongue below so I have a consistent overhang of the top of the mast at the rear of the trailer. So as long as I stop the trailer at the marks on my garage floor, I won't risk running the top of the mast into the wall at the rear of the garage. Of course, it always helps to have my wife help guide me in. Hope this helps.
