Launching/Retrieving a CP 16

I tried to launch my CP 16 (Magic Tilt trailer that doesn't tilt), but the only way I could get her deep enough to float was tie a rope to the trailer and the hitch on the car and push her in - retrieved the same way.  I measured the distance from the trailer tongue to the keel, went to a different ramp, measured out the same distance and then the depth, not deep enough.  Tow vehicle is a Kia Forte so I know I'd have a little more height with a pick up, but .....   Is this a common problem??   Solution???

maiden launch last week for me....I had the same concern, but with the tires 2 inches wet on my Tundra, she slipped right off. More a function of the ramp pitch i would think

here was my backup plan, a uhaul extension....pretty inexpensive:

I need 3/4/5 feet.  That's why I had to use a rope.  If my 20 Year old Grandson hadn't been with me ....... well!

my cp-16 came with a heavier trailer, probably fit for a cp-19. to launch it I would back my RV all the way until the water reached the level of the rv coach step well and stepping out of the cab I'd be in shin deep water also.
It provided the ramp tourists with copious amounts of entertainment but was never a problem... just don't switch the engine off (or the exhaust would fill up).
usually got a round of applause too.

My CP 16 trailer has a 2x3 tongue. My father-in-law is a metal worker/collector (he always has stuff around because someone might need it for something) and had a 2x2 heavy duty stop sign post. This has multiple holes on all sides for great variations of sign mounting options. I cut an 8 foot length, mounted a hitch coupling and added a couple of brackets to the tongue - now when I launch, I can extend my tongue almost 6 feet and launch without any problem.

My first launch was also a problem, but she did come off with a goodly amount of pushing and "sailor's words".  Looking the situation over I noted that the keel rollers were not "rolling". 

I installed all new rollers and now ... WATCH OUT  ... when you release the trailer winch ... She is ON HER WAY in the water.  Retrieving is also very easy.

Lesson Learned ... Check those keel rollers and replace them before they quit doing their job!

  one thing that you want to avoid with a rear drive vehicle with a live axle is submerging said axle for any more than a very short period of time. nothing will kill it quicker than to have water getting in there through the breather tube

No issues for me. I only back my truck in as far as water up to barely touching the rear rims. No Axel in the water whatsoever. I have only needed to use the magic tilt trailer's tilt feature once at a shallow ramp at low lake level and it worked fine. Otherwise I have always floated the boat on and off and not submerged the truck. Seemed like noting a different experience was need in this thread.

I'd say you already found the solution!  I always had to use a tow strap when launching with my dodge charger.  Quite a spectacle for everyone at the ramp...
