My son is coming to town for our annual father/son sail this weekend. The weather might not be the best for it, but I think we'll at least go to the club and see. I may find out about some more hidey-holes if we need to anchor out.

I found out about Hancock creek last time out; guess I'll scrutinize the charts prior to leaving.

Any suggestions?

Hey Bruce,

My favorites are Oriental, South River, Adams Creek and an option closer to Blackbeards is Clubfoot Creek. You could also sail in the New Bern area and maybe even tie up at Union Point and walk into town for a nice supper! There are some excellent restaurants within walking distance.

Hey Bruce:
I know that I am late with a response but, just came back from 3 days on the Neuse.  I really like Paradise Cove Marina on lower Broad Creek.  It is out of the way, inexpensive, power, water, and showers, $35 for Windrunner.  If you try it, call 252 249 2035 when you are in the channel and they will give you instructions.  Great place and very friendly.

I was going to check out South River, but did not feel confident going in there with only my keel as a working depth finder.

Hope that you had a great trip with your son.

Charlie, Terry,

Thanks for the suggestions; we tried to take them, haha.

We ended up daysailing Friday,  staying at the dock at Blackbeard, due to storms.  Saturday,  we got as far as Minnesott when the the storm  hit.  Went into our old anchorages there at Hancock, and stayed overnight; put up boom tent, had a good old time of it. Sunday, we motor sailed back; saw some old Com-pac friends, Jeff Tsai and Clif Bills who had anchored out across the river at that secret marina, wayfarer or something. Anyway, it was a great father son trip, and we'll do it again next year.

I'm ready to get past Minnesott!

Glad you had a good weekend Bruce. I took Friday off to go sailing but due to the weather forcast for storms, we drove to the South River and stayed Friday and Saturday. I did get to see Jeff and Cliff for a few minutes as they were leaving the South River mid-day Saturday.

Did get a small sailing fix on a Snark sailboat.....
