CP19 Screens. New updated version

I was able to source a screen, custom built, for the 4 inch round style port on our CP19s.
I ordered 5 total, so I had one to mess with. These are custom built from ABS and have a fiberglass screen mesh glued into them. professionally made according to my specs. It is through a custom window maker I have come to know in the marine business.

I test fitted them today and they worked perfectly with the ring clips I purchased from Hutchins.
One will need to be lightly sanded to fit as there seems to be a slight difference either in the screen or the port, but prior to ordering I made sure that they could indeed be modded some without issue, and prototyped them out with that thought in mind.

Here are a few pictures from todays test fit.

The next picture shows that they have a roughed texture look to them, that is done like that to keep the possibility of scratching them from not showing as the other option was a smooth finish.

They install just like the originals at a fraction of the cost. They are done in black to keep them somewhat hidden as the other option was white plastic. The black I felt was less of a eye catcher taking away from the look and beauty of the boat normally.

IF anyone is interested, let me know, and after I get a big order together I can price them out totally and see who is in. The only thing I might change is to take some kind of hardware to install a know to make them easier to get back out. but I am not as worried about that currently as I doubt you would ever have to remove them but maybe for the winter.

Meant to add this as well:
Now after purchasing the rings, I will be sourcing the rings in a better fashion, I wasnt real happy with what was sent to me, but they will do the job. I also felt the SS rings were a bit expensive as for the mismatched set that was sent to me.

I am a perfectionist, so it might just bother me, as my wife didnt seem to care a whole lot......

I purchased my four port screens from Hutchins, along with my ladder, stern pulpit and safety lines and 'sticks' back in 2000.

Everything came same day UPS and I noticed the rear pulpit was drop shipped to Wisconsin out of California bolted to a single flat piece of plywood which I still have in the garage.

Can you say expensive components?

Mac says; " Skip, They no longer source the screens anymore due to price which I have heard is around $70 dollars a screen as of 2 years ago. " That sounds right. I paid about that much.

Note- that a post from somebody asks about how far [deep] the ports stick out. These port screens I bought are supper thin and are designed and fit into a machined groove with a 'snap ring' that also shares the groove in the port like you show in your pictures.

All the ports are the same thickness and it just depends on how thick the cabin bulkhead is. Old = thin Teak surround vs. new = thick fiberglass XL insert. And that determines how far the ports stick out. Again every port has a machined groove for the screen and snap ring.

Mac,
I would be interested in getting some of the screens from your source. Also I noticed on some previous shots of your boat that your portholes extend how farther towards the outside of your boat than mine do. It appears your porthole has about 1/2" protruding through the cabin wall, where mine is flush with the exterior of the cabin. Did you not place the interior cabin wood underneath the porthole when you replaced them? By the way your boat is beautiful!

Cruzin,
The portholes on my boat are installed just as it was from the factory, and they have always stuck out that far. I have seen on other 19s that they arent always the same as mine, and some are. Not sure if they sourced a different brand, or built them differently, or what. As far as the screens go, be sure to measure the inside diameter of the port hole to be sure it is 4 inches inside. Let me know how many clips go in yours as well, as in my prototyping I figured out several options as to installing them to facilitate other options.
Before I place a order for more screens I am going to see how many here want them and then work a deal with the supplier since it is all custom work. I will keep reading here for a few weeks to give everyone a chance to jump on the bandwagon to see if I can get a lower price per piece at that point.
Thank you for the compliment on my boat, I really appreciate it. It was a lot of hard work, but nice to enjoy it.

I think they will run 10 to 15 each. I am hoping to get it down more, by more in the order, I am not sure how low he will go.

He has to setup to make them,
