Tadpole

Greetings to the forum!

After years of searching for a clean CP 16 II or III, I finally found, and purchased capt.brian's 1990 CP 16/III (see forum classified ads).  I said I would travel for the right boat...this was the right boat...and I did travel...right into a winter storm.  The admiral and I drove from Eastern Oklahoma to Birmingham, AL to pick her up.  We got within 31 miles of the boat and had to turn around and backtrack because of the icy roads.  Spent two days holed up in Tupelo, MS waiting for a weather window to try again.

We finally made it on Thursday.  We met previous owner Brian and his wife.  You couldn't ask for two more gracious, helpful people.  Brian had kept me apprised of the weather so we had talked many times on the phone prior to our actual arrival.  Unlike some PO's, Brian is a talented craftsman, a boat lover by nature, and a perfectionist when it comes to his work.  The boat was absolutely immaculate, even better than the pictures he had sent.  I couldn't stop drooling!

Anyhow, Brian did most of the work getting her ready to travel, and we pulled out of his driveway mid afternoon on Thursday.  Drove back to Tupelo to spend the night, then left early the next morning for our trip back to Oklahoma.  Had an uneventful trip home and arrived late Friday afternoon.  She rides well on her trailer at around 60-65 mph.  She'll go faster, but I wasn't in any hurry.  Would I make the trip again?  ABSOLUTELY! She's worth it!

After years of lurking and asking questions, I'm happy to be an official, participating, (i.e. sailing)  member of the forum.

Thanks Tim,

My tongue-in-cheek philosophy in naming her "Tadpole" is that someday, "she'll grow up to be a real boat".  That said, I'm proud, and quite happy to be a small boat trailer sailor.  I've owned larger boats, and as I've gotten older, my boats keep getting smaller.  I'm 70 years old, and do most of my sailing alone.  Easy mast stepping and quick setup at the ramp are very important to me now.  As far as Bob23 is concerned, I've been hanging around the forum long enough to know that Bob is the NJ mafia boss that collects all the fees.  Once you get past the broken kneecaps, he's not a bad guy though.

Congrats Tadpole. Sounds like you bought the unit from Alabaster,Al. What a great looking rig. Wonderful to see a twenty-four year old boat in such terrific condition.
Many helpful bits of info on this site and parts help from The Hutchins Co.in Clearwater, Fl.
You may be aware of The Sailboat Co. web address: sailboat@ipass.net. Kieth Scott has excellent info on sailing the 16 lower left of his home page. I and many consider him a Guru of the 16 and other sail boats.

Hope you enjoy your new yacht!

One thing that my boss told me when I drove 230 miles round trip to get the 19 always will stick in my head. "It is all part of the adventure"
He was right, with a set of nonworking lights, I was forced to return to get the boat the next day. Before leaving there was a giant hail storm, a blown out tire, and a slow arduous 40 MPH trip home due to horrible rainy weather.
With my truck battle damaged with hail damage, and broken out fog light and KC Grill light, I returned 8 hours after I had left getting home around midnight.

I am glad you are happy, as was I (well, REALLY happy when I got home finally!!!) and now you have a wonderful boat to enjoy!
Life is a adventure! So is it when messing about in boats!

Congrats!

You talkin' to me?
Congrats on the purchase of your 16. Although I'm quite happy with my 23, I keep my eyes open for a little sister to her. It's very rewarding to purchase a boat from someone who cared for her...that was my experience with my 23. We look forward to following your sailing adventures.
As far as broken kneecaps, I'm sure that wasn't me...must be my evil twin. I do however have 2 cousins who occasionally work together. One owns a boot company; the other owns a concrete company.
Welcome, although you've been around here for quite some time!
