On Craigslist Tampa. Anyone know about this? Looks like a project boat! At least it's floating!

If it's floating, that's a good price.

that could be a real good deal...or a money pit.

appears to have had standing water inside for some time.

looks like rust stains on the cabin sole, and a water mark along the bulkhead.

it might just need cleaning up, or another $10 grand in repairs.

wish i had the time to look at it, but then i'd need a trailer and vehicle to bring it home to illinois.

it would sit in the drive while i worked on it.

that would take all my sailing time away from me.

i really need to talk myself out of calling this guy.

i've seen others in florida for around $20,000 that could be sailed home.

wouldn't have to work on those.

spend an extra $15 grand, or loose a summer to working on this boat?

i do enjoy working on boats...

what to do?  what to do?

Of course it's a money pit, it's a 1988 sailboat. This goes without saying.

it is sitting on the bottom most of the time. The stuffing box is leaking for the easiest fix. Not sure if the Mother (at the Home) can actually sell the boat just because she holds the title. Hans

I found nothing easy about fixing a C27 stuffing box.

Wes has a solid point.

In that picture, it most certainly would be a project boat.
A lot of work due to wood issues, and that looks almost as if the boat would have had the engine in the water.......

Suffing boxes arent usually a big deal, not saying this would be easy (guys with experience are saying it isnt....) but that typically is such a simple parts job that people never mess with it.

Odd what people who own boats wont fix, that are cheap fixes, that prevent this kind of crap......

I understand from Joe next door that the son who is the owner left two years ago to live out of state. That is when he ran the engine the last time. Boat US towing to the closest Travel lift would be the only way for someone living out of state. The Marina up river that was freindly to do it your selfers has been sold to a dealership.
