Thanks Chris..... I was glad that I was able to show you how to set the mast, lines and sails!  Sorry that I didn't know how the previous owner had it rigged to sail it single handed (I'm sure one of the more experienced members here would know how if you posted pictures!!!)  and we didn't get any time to sail your Compac.  If the weather ever cooperates, I 'd be glad to go sailing with you another time!

Bob..... I have been lurking aound this site for over 3 years and have been a silent member here with lots of logged hours on this site.  I thank everyone that has contibuted to my knowledge base, sailing techiques and restoration of my 16' Compac.

Chris and I met several weeks ago at La Due Resovior which is 30 miles east of Cleveland, Ohio.  I was getting ready to launch the Puddle Duck Racer sailboat that I built with my grandkids (ages six and eight) last summer.   I was really surpised to see another Compac Sailboat at La Due Resovior as it is mostly used for fishing.

   I'm familiar with the PDR. The first time I saw one was at the Traditionally Craft Festival at St. Michaes, Maryland a few years ago. I couldn't believe that mini-barge was going as fast as it was. I've been wanting to build one ever since...seems like an ultra simple boat to build that has gained almost cult following.

Bob, the  basic PDR is a quick build and can be built for around $300 in a long 3 day weekend.  The neat part of the Puddle Duck, is you can customize the boat any way you want with the hull being buildt to PDR specifications.  The average maximum hull speed is 5 MPH.  Its a boxy looking boat but it is very stable.  I never would have thought it would be so much fun to sail!  

Yes Brack.........some people spend a lot of money and time customizing their PDR.  That is a great looking boat  on the link you provided, but I agree is a little over the top!  

The day that I met Chris, I was with an 85 year old friend that added a cabin to his basic PDR Racer boat.  Thought you might be interested in his boat.  Its a neat looking boat and a fine sailing vessel.  Here is an article and a link on the PDR site about his boat  "QUACK".         http://www.pdracer.com/boat-building/671-quack/
