Legacy boom tent

Hi Guys,

When I bought my Legacy earlier this year I hit the optional extras list pretty heavily and one of the things I ordered was the boom tent. I would be interested in anyones thoughts on it.
My previous boat had a boom tent which was very simple in construction and easy to set up, it was just draped across the boom and fastened to the lifelines. Although simple it provided shelter and because it came down to the lifelines it also provided a degree of privacy.

The Legacy boom tent is also simple in construction and sits across the boom, but is fitted with very stiff fibreglass battens, which means when it is set up it is like a flat roof. This does maximize headroom, but provides no side screening and no privacy at all. Good for shade but not so good for other things you might want to do in the cockpit.

What have you guys done with yours? The way it is as supplied it is pretty useless, especially as I also bought the Bimini.

Over to you,
Pete H.

Hi Pete,

I've not seen the boom tent and didn't know it was an option from Compac. I'd love to see a picture if you have one. I've been thinking it would be a handy addition for cruising, especially here in the Pacific NW. Is it canvas or nylon tent cloth?

Would removing the battens give you the privacy you want or just make headroom a problem? What about adding side curtains to it? Maybe removable curtains using zippers.

How do you like your new boat so far and what have you named it? I've had my Legacy about two years now and really like it. I'm hoping next season to get some cruising time in since I've only day sailed so far. Just ordered some charts of the Puget Sound for winter "armchair" cruising.

Hi Kahp Ho,

I will post a photo of the Legacy boom tent as soon as I work out how to do it.  I know that there are instructions here, I just have to work through them.

Regards,
Pete H
