After too many years of not having a sailboat, I found a '81 CP16 in Adair, IL (a couple hours north of St Louis) and made the trek up to see it. My initial impression was good and I agreed to buy the boat, but in the process of hooking it up to the van I discovered that the hub bearings were missing from one wheel. I got the seller to agree to fix this and ended up making the trip a second time in mid-january to pick up my "new" boat and bring it home to St Charles, MO. I have not had it in the water yet (I work in a high school and this is a crazy time for me) but I have been doing a little work on the boat getting it ready 1. installed a new hatch panel - the old one was plywood and separating, so I used a piece of corian I had laying around ( a little heavy, but it looks nice). 2. Took off the bow pulpit ( I had some water leaks around the bolt holes anyway) 3. Yesterday I worked on the mast tabernacle - it was bent up a bit and needed some new fasteners.  If the weather holds this weekend I may try to put in the water and take it for a sail. I hope to get over to Carlyle for the gathering in July but I am not sure how the timing matches up with family vacations/trips...

welcome wroundey..    it sounds like you are in a good location to hook up the the Carlyle group.  I am sure that they would be happy to have you show up.   We will all be looking forward to pics..   good luck with the projects that you have tackled and with your first sail of the season..   as a teacher at the high school level, I know all about the crazy times of the year.. and this is definitely one of them!    We are all getting a little antsy about now :)
