My family and I are going to stay in a cottage on Canandaigue Lake in New York (one of the finger lakes) for three weeks this July.  We are bringing our new Legacy and I look forward to spending a lot of time getting to know the boat and learn how to sail her.

Are there any Com-Pac owners on the lake?  If so I'd love to try to meet up somewhere on the lake if possible one day while we are there.

I can't offer much help, but I would love to see a write up on your trip!  I travel thru the finger lakes area several times a year, but I have not sailed on any of them.  Beautiful countryside though, and if you like wine, there are lots of wineries to tour!

I grew up in the Figer Lakes region, more specifically Seneca Lake.  Have you ever sailed on Seneca Lake?  Since 1975 I have lived in Florida, but I have always wanted to sail from Geneva to Watins Glen.  I would love to hear of your adventure.

Our first finger lakes vacation was a cottage rental overlooking Seneca Lake near Watkins Glen.  Wow what a beautiful place!  We hadn't rediscovered sailing yet on that trip but we did have a couple of kayaks and had a great time exploring the lake.  I went out alone one day with the wind blowing hard and felt like Jack Aubrey staring down nature while paddling into wind and waves. I thought once I turned around it would be an easy surf back but then discovered that with the waves coming at me from the stern the kayak wanted to turn sideways and broach.

We took a short cruise on "Lee Sea Anne I" one year.  That was a lot of fun too but not as fun as sailing your own boat would be.

I think we're going to look for a place on Seneca or Cayuga next year.  Your idea for a cruise the length of the lake and back sounds like a blast!  That's something like 35 miles each way.  I'll need some cruising experience before attempting it though.  Maybe next year. :-)
