"SISKIWIT" and I are heading to warmer climes Fri am.  I have the camper on the pickup and everything on the boat tied down, including my mountain bike (I want to be flexible).  It is supposed to get down to 32 deg in Apalachicola on the 11th, the night I should be rolling in, but compared to this week here, that's almost summer.  It is supposed to be 1154 miles, 19 hrs, but I kind of drag my feet, trying to conserve fuel, so I may take as much as 24 hrs driving.  I hope to have some photos to post later, we will see what comes out.  I'll be thinking of my fellow CP sailors that are still in areas where the water is hard.  Best to all.

Have fun Doug.  Wish I could go along.  If you think she'll hold throw the anchor out before you drive home.  Drag the warm weather back with you.  :D

JERSEY SHORE TRAILER SAILERS

sawyer

It has been real cold, and I have not yet sailed.  St George State Park is closed from Hurrican Katrina damage, mild damage, but still closed. It is interesting to see some of the trailers and cottages along the coast, totally off of their foundations and some really trashed.
Launches are full of sand in a lot of areas, I will be putting in Wed with the tide at the Port St Joe. launch/park and sailing that area. seems to be less sand washup there.  Supposed to be 66-70 deg Wed and 70-74 Deg Thurs.  Water temp is 48 deg, sun is beating down on me, I am loving it.  Have to thread up the sails and put on dogs today, have done nothing since washing them.
I had one flat tire on the way down, in Alabama, a little work changing to the spare, but tolerable.  Yesterday I drove to Talahassee and found 2 new tires, the second went flat pulling into the tire shop.  They told me the tires were from the 20th week of 1998, so almost 7 years on these. The second flat was from a hole in the rim, pinprick only, in the side, so I bought one rim too.  $101 later, I was on the road again with 75lbs in the new tires and a good spare on too.
Weather is improving, truck camper is self contained, campgrounds are near $30 a night, were $20 at the State Park (darn-it).  Fuel has been $2.40 to 2.53 per gal, about 15mpg with the diesel. (Tolerable).  Having internet access at the local libraby is a treat.
I had found a copy of "Tinkerbell" for sale at the Grant, Michigan library, a steal at 50 cents, this is the first time I have read it, what a great story.
I sent Merry a valentines note today, what a great gal.  This is her valentine gift to me, I am going to have to be especially good when I get back to the cold weather.

Doug,

Glad to hear that you are having a good time.  We are under a winterstorm watch here for Wednesday and Thursday.  We are supposed to get quite a bit of ice and then COLD through the weekend.

Hope this helps you enjoy the South all the more :D
