The lazaret lids have the teak trim held in place with short SS Srews. The two pices of trim touch each other when the lids are down. When you drop them you'll hear the wood to wood. When you sit or stand on the lids, it puts great pressure on these screws. The screw will pull out. I solved this by placing 1/2" thick bumpers to the underside of the lids. Takes the pressure off the teak trim. I also replaced the screws with machine screws finish washers and nuts.

I had the same problem.  The screws started cracking the fiberglass seat when sat upon.  I placed a 1.5x9/16 treated piece of wood with longer screws so the trim pieces do not touch one another.  See pictures.
