Hi
I am a new member, just signed up two days ago.
I have a 1984 Compac 19 that I bought in the middle of the summer. I have owned sailboats before (the biggest was a Hunter 23), but I have to say this little 19 is the most fun of all, and the best behaved.
So far I have had some canvas made (boom tent, tiller cover, Magma grill cover).  I have made a galley unit that will get installed in the spring. I will have to post a picture (I hear that is a challenge!). Also I have re -pinstriped her, replaced the tiller, replaced the battery, and added a few accessories. I installed a LED that makes the floor of the cockpit "glow", and it looks cool while it is on. I can leave it on for hours with no noticeable drain on the battery.

It is great to have a place like this where like - minded fanatics can rant and rave and share the fun - thanks for letting this one in!

My biggest "upgrade" for the coming season will be to name her. That's hard!

Hope everyone is having a good winter so far  .... ::)

welcome to the forum...  what is your home port?    we live in PA  but sail on Barnegat Bay along with the famous Bob23..   I have found the folks here to be very friendly and helpful when questions arise.   It sounds like you are off to a great start with projects for the boat!  that is a great way to spend the off season.  we are all looking forward to some pics!   jt

Welcome!
You definitely have to post some pictures, so we can steal ideas, I MEAN...... so we can see what you have done!

Picture posting really isnt too bad. you will need a Photobucket account.

If I didnt have a meeting today to go to (on a SUNDAY, I KNOW!  >:(  )  I would be working on my 19... I have several projects planned that will all go into the DIY section.

My wife keeps adding stuff to the list......

I will work on pictures!
I also work Sundays, but my mind is obviously elsewhere..

I live in Waterbury, VT, and sail on Lake Champlain. Winters up here are long and cold, and the summers are beautiful (but short!).
Definitely not a place for a sailor to retire.  But I have a few years to figure out what to do about that!

I will have to post the galley unit in the DIY section. It came out pretty nice.  Maybe someone else will get some ideas from it.
I am currently working on a jib furler, with a more bullet - proof bottom end.
Hopefully in the spring,  I will be able to order up a bowsprit, too.
And of course, that elusive name...

Hi DB and welcome! Always great to have new members.  A few years ago a friend of mine sold his 19 to a person in VT, me thinks. I wonder if it's the same boat? I don't even remember the name but I have a few photos lurking down in the photo bilge.
I've also added an LED cockpit light, red, in a small alcove on the starboard side of the cockpit. It also houses the connector for the remote mike for my Icom vhf radio and is covered with a sliding piece of plexiglass. Here is a photo, although quite lacking in quality:

Hmmm, guys: Let's all put our thinking caps on and come up with a name for DB's new 19. What a great welcome gift that would be. My entry: "Too Much Fun".

I bought mine from a guy in NY, but it was just this past summer.
I put my LED right below the cabin hatch. I leave it on when we are at the Burlington Boat House, and we head off for a Guiness or two. It is nice to come back to the boat with the light on.
I like your set up, and the red LED. Mine is white, but dimmer.

"Too Much Fun"....    I kind of like that!!

ANOTHER GUINESS MAN!!! Is it the best or is it the best!
My red is not as bright as it seems.
Here is a photo of my friends old 19..don't remember the year but her name was "Gypsy Soul".

Another name: "Pint o' fun"

How do I come up with these? It's a gift, my fine man, a gift that I've chosen to freely share with all mankind...starting with all of the Compac-o-nauts here!
I also try to drink my share of Guiness...and then some!

hi Dave,
it is interesting that all of a sudden there are a couple of Lake Champlain sailors hanging around the site..   I am planning on bringing Adagio up  next summer.   My daughter lives in Johnson vt.   and  my son is in NH.   We are looking forward to having the boat up that way.   my wife is particularly keen on the idea that there are no jelly fish or sharks  in Champlain.. of course, i am not sure if she is aware of  Champ..  maybe i won't bring that up till we are anchored in a nice cove and a couple of minutes after she jumps in for a swim.. and i am still sitting in the cockpit..  " Janet, have i ever told you about Champ? "   hmm  wonder how that will go over!     jt

How about "Cooper", DB?

TG

Me' thinks if he was "the" Cooper he would be sporting a Com-Pac 35 somewhere in the Caribbean. :)

JT-
I lived in the Johnson area for a while. Nice country out there. You will enjoy Lake Champlain, lots to see and do, and nice spots to anchor.
Tell your wife that so far no one has reported being eaten by Champ..
Give me a holler when you are up here, we can do a Compac flotilla!

Definately not "the" Cooper, I don't like heights!
