THANKSGIVING...

...is 2 weeks away. In 14 days from now, many of us will be enjoying a fine dinner with family and friends. I always find it good practice to try to give thanks for something everyday. I can't say I don't do more than my share of whining but, honestly, we all have more to be thankful for than we can remember. So...
I'm thankful and grateful that Sandy went on her way and although she really made a mess of things for me and many others, she's gone. I'm thankful for my wonderful family- a wonderful wife who tolerates much more than she should, 2 great kids who aren't afraid to work and are not addicted to trends but seem to think for themselves. Of course, I'm thankful that there is a 1985 Compac 23/2 in my driveway.

Bob23,

Great post!

I'm glad that you made it through Sandy in good health. Property damage and other things can be significant losses but as my old dad used to say "if money can fix it, it ain't a problem) .

In my opinion we all have much to be thankful for. If we live in a country were we have access to clean drinking water, enough healthy food to sustain us, shelter, heating, the chance to vote for the government that represents us, the right to hold and express opinions that that government doesn't agree with without being jailed or made to disappear, the chance to work in some useful and rewarding job, the right to worship as we wish (or not if we prefer), freedom of association, etc. etc. If we have all these things then we are ahead of about eighty percent of the people living on this beleaguered planet and we truly do have much to be thankful for. Personally when I read the death notices in my local newspaper and I'm not there, I'm mightily thankful.

I hope that all CPYOA members have a great time during the upcoming Thanksgiving period.

Best wishes to all,

Pete H.

Everyone, please, enjoy Thanksgiving with friends and family.

I remember our families, the aunts, uncles, kids, grand parents, and dogs all over for Thanksgiving and how us kids sat at our own special card table.

And how we all waited for Dad's 'Special' Thanksgiving Toast.
The adults would hold up their Moegan David classes and we, our grape juice glasses in anticipation...giggling on a count of we all knew what was coming.

Dad would stand up in his dress blues and start,

" Be Happy~Be Healthy~Be Wealthy-Let's cut the Damn Bird. " We all knew dad would say that naughty word.

Today it's different. All our family is dead. We do nothing for Thanksgiving. No celebration, no turkey, no nothing, we don't spend money on junque we don't need and I guess were OK with that. Watch your paycheck. I guess our Country is going to get what they voted for. Like lemmings to a slaughter.

I just spent 6 weeks walking across the Basque region of Spain with all my belongings on my back.  It was impossible not to live in the moment.  My near term planning horizon was about an hour, long term the end of that day.  Mostly disconnected from electronic distractions, observing and reflecting became my non physical activities. I met, spent quality time and made friends with folks from every corner of the earth.  It was wonderful in that respect and I came away with a different perspective:

Most of what we fret about is small stuff and it really doesn't matter.  I'm thankful for that.

I'm thankful that, at our age, my wife and I are healthy enough physically and mentally to have the experience described above.

I'm thankful that my three grown sons seem to have gotten the best of our traits without getting the worst, and they are healthy, well adjusted to life, and happy.

Looking forward to Thanksgiving with family and friends, and wishing the same to all.

Well maybe we could have a CPYOA Central for times such as these..  ;)

By the grace of God, I have both of my parents, divorced and still angry after 37 years, and that's a good sign! but always willing to help anyone, I have a decent  old house, nothing special, but sailors are always WELCOME!

I'm cooking for a big bird for 6-10 adults, but anyone is invited, please contact me for the Ohio address.

Thanks for your service to the forum over the years!

Happy Thanksgiving from Brenda and I to our extended "family" here at CPYOA.  We are truly thankful for all the support, laughter and friendship we have received from our association with a such a great group of people.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. We live a life our ancestors could only dream of. I feel grateful and humble to be here. In spite of all the gloom and doom I hear, the years just seem to be getting better!

We (I) really don't realize how blessed we are. May we appreciate what we have (which in my case, is much more than I need) and share our excess with others. Therein is true life and happiness found. Happy Thanksgiving from the Bob23 household to yours!
