Hi All,

I'm new to all this, I have been following this forum for a while now but have never tried to post anything before, so anything could happen, So-- here goes.

My name is Pete H.  I have recently taken delivery of a new Legacy, the dealer tells me that it is the first one in the country. I had never seen any Com Pac yacht before I decided to buy a Legacy as a retirement present for my wife and I, (well ok I admit it, it was mainly me).

I decided on a Legacy after researching on the Internet, I needed something easy to rig, tow and launch. I also wanted a NEW boat.
We already had a larger trailer sailer, at fourty years old it needed some work, but after a long career as a workshop teacher, I could have done the work, just didn't want to. The Legacy, fully optioned, ready to sail, no more to spend only cost $28 grand, so that was also a factor.

When it arrived we drove 1200 miles to pick it up. It was BEAUTIFUL, love at first sight. The 8 inch trailer wheels were a surprise, my previous trailer sailer ran 14 inches. However it towed well on the trip home.

We live in Victoria, the most southerly mainland state and we are just coming out of winter, so am waiting for some nice weather for a first shakedown sail.

Anyone visiting Australia is welcome to contact me and we may be able to arrange some sailing.

I have this site to a source of great information so far, and I expect to continue to do so.

Thanks everyone,

Pete Holly

Pete:
I'm pleased to have the honor to be the first to welcome you! I believe you are the first post from down under but I couldn't swear to it.
I've seen the Legacy at shows but have never sailed on one so should I find myself on a plane to Victoria, I'll take you up on your offer. We look forward to your posts, photos and stories about your adventures.
Up here in coastal southern NJ, we are in the beginnings of a beautiful fall. Lots of oaks, maples, birches and other deciduous trees contrasting with white cedars and pines on the mainland make bay sailing a real treat. The Barnegat Bay water also seems to turn a darker blue so that adds to the great fall colors. Temp right now is 60f out and I'm going sailing today on my 1985 Compac 23 "Koinonia".
Any names for your new baby? Best wishes,
Bob23

pretty sweet that these little boats found their way to australia . not surprising since i read that more sailing occurs there than anywhere else in the world.

Welcome and Congrats, Pete!

The Legacy is a great looking boat!  Suzie and I were looking at one when we were first in the market for a sailboat but then decided to go for the Eclipse, to better fit our needs.

There is a gentleman in Brisbane who just purchased an Eclipse and recently joined the forum.

I believe we also have 2 more members from Australia that have dreams of owning a Com-Pac.
Clint and esterhazyinoz have mentioned that they are from down under and are in the market also.

It is fun to have such a diversity of different folks on the site and from so many different places.  We are all anxious to see pics.  Do you have a name yet and what bodies of water do you plan to sail?

I had the pleasure to visit Victoria 8 years ago.  We landed in Melbourne and spent a few days there before traveling to Cairns and then back to Sydney.  Victoria has some beautiful country.   Here is a photo I took at a winery in the Yarra Valley.

We weren't sailing at that time but looking back at the photos I noticed that I did take a lot of pictures of sailboats where ever we were.  Scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef had to be a highlight of the trip.  This is how we got out to the diving platform.

Best of luck with your Com-Pac and of course the invitation goes both ways.  If you ever get to the states there is a good chance that you will be near one of us that would be happy to have you on the crew for a sail.

Regards,
Allen

Bob23,

Thank you for your welcome.
Your description of the fall trees in full color was tantalizing. It is on my bucket list to visit the US. I want to visit some of the historical sites (War of Independance, Civil War, Little Big Horn etc), then New York and to be up in the North East for the fall colors. I have also always wanted to ride a motorcycle the length of Route 66, but I may have left it bait late for that one.

I hope that you had a good days sailing "Koinonia"!

And yes the Legacy has a name, she is called "Muggler"!

Thanks for your welcome. As you say there is a lot of sailing done down here - however with only 10% of your population, I'm sure there is a lot more done in the US.

Eagle eye (Allen),
Thanks for your welcome.

We live about two hours drive west of Melbourne in a wine growing area that looks a lot like that shown in your photograph. (Thanks for the photos.)
Thank you for the link to the Eclipse owner in Brisbane, I have been in touch with him.

Guys I will send some pics of what I believe to be the first Legacy in Australia as soon as I work out how to actually do that,

Untill then
