Smier - Sorry about the flu thing... bunk's still open if you suddenly come down with good health!  :P

Tim - You're on the short list... sans hat, it won't fit in the CP16's cabin!  ;D

Haven't yet decided if I'm going Friday morning or Saturday. Latest weather report says Saturday/Sunday may be drier. In any event, I plan to be at UpTheCreek Marina about 1100. Distance to Tice's Shoal is less than 5 nm so should take about an hour from Bayville with wind out of the NW at 5. A bit breezier on Saturday, 10-15.

Warning - while you were typing a new reply has been posted. You may wish to review your post.

jt - Wow! What a smart forum. Got your message just as I was posting this one.  :o  If I don't get to shanghai somebody, I'll give you a shout Friday eve., if that's okay? Pegasus is begging to get back in the bay, but discretion is the better part of valor - maybe!  ;D

Even though the ranks have dwindled, I'm looking forward to a nice weekend. I'll probably arrive sometime on Friday afternoon...BUT...I have my own scheduling issues. It seems that a 31st birthday party for my son has been planned for Saturday night! I struggled with how to be in 2 places at one time and realized that I can't. Unless it's moved to another day, I'll be departing Tice's around 4 or 5 pm on Saturday night and returning at about 10 pm so as to make fresh coffee (read: French Press) for everyone.
Allow me to expand: In the past, I have placed my business and even my sailboat above my family. Yes, I'm that stupid. Not all the time, but enough that it disgusted me. I guess as one gets older, one realizes the value of time...it can never be regained...Never! After the last episode of mis-used time, I said to myself, "That's it!No more!" Then, the scheduling conflict arose that I have before me.
We'll see how it plays out but I will be there. I think both Marty (aka Mr. Volvo) and JT (aka JT) have my cell number so feel free to call or hail in VHF channel 16.
Maybe the 2013 BBB will go smoother...Maybe I should take scheduling lessons from the CLR guys!

hey bob..  no problem..  of course, you could bring your son along on the trip, and we could all help celebrate his birthday :)   I am looking forward to seeing you tomorrow morning...

Marty,  do you still have my cell #?    if you decide to join me, just give me a call..   it will be fun to  see you again..

I am  going to try to get out of here as soon as possible after my last class  and a short meeting that  i have scheduled..   i could hit a bunch of traffic, and, as much as i would like to leave the marina this evening,  it will be much more relaxing to just plan on setting out early tomorrow morning..   see you guys soon..   jt

Bob, JT - Life sure can get complicated! We are sailboaters so we don't have to always worry about time... let me know how that works out! Ha, ha. Okay, it's now Friday, Pegasus is chomping at the bit and wants to go... but, a crew hasn't miraculously appeared... so it looks like a call to jt may be in order.

Congrats to your son on his 31st, Bob. My youngest is turning 30 on the 30th. Time flies! And don't be so hard on yourself. Looking forward to seeing you guys... sooner or later on Saturday.

I will enjoy the company,  Marty.   We can shove off whenever you get to the marina.  Shorepoint marina  1 Corrigan Ave,  pine beach nj (bayville)   I have been told that gps messes up if you put pine beach in.. So probably best to use bayville  give me a call some time today to confirm.    See you soon  jt

Hey guys, I'm jealously anticipating some photos and updates!  I hope you all have a great time, finally seem to be over the worst of the flu bug, I really appreciate the offer to join you guys but I figured why risk getting anyone else sick... It wasn't fun!!!  Looks like some beautiful weather!

BBB-2012 aka 3 Guys in a Tub!  ;D

Well, the Barnegat Bay Bash 2012 has come and gone... the turnout was somewhat less than hoped
for, but the fun was beyond description. Weather was PERFECT! Bob will be posting photos
shortly. If we wait for me to do it we'll all be with Davy Jones by then.
The sail down from Tom's River (about 8nm) was great with 15 to 20 mph winds. Jason (skipper of
the ComPac Yacht Adagio) put in a single reef and off we went. About 100 yards from the marina
we did a MOB drill... Jason lost his hat while fiddlin' with some thing on the bow. Crew (that
would be me) reacted immediately and sailed Adagio (under iron wind power) 180 degrees to
retrieve the errant hat. Jason, on the bow, reached as far as he could, then remembered that
this was a ComPac, a 23 at that, with serious free-board! Never fear, crew stretched out all
6'2" from the stern and snatched the little sucker from the grip of Tom's River. MOB drill
accomplished!

As we cruised down Barngegat Bay at about 6 knots (pretty briskly, for sure), we were passed by
a fleet of "cigarette" boats at speed. The roar was thunderous. Wall Street is doing well,
indeed!

Arriving at Tice's Shoals we found Bob23's CP23 Koinoia resting peacefully at anchor, but no
Bob (we tried hailing him several times on the cruise down, to no avail). Bob had been out
enjoying himself in his dinghy getting some rowing exercise in. It was about at this point when
Jason informed me that we didn't have a dinghy and would have to swim the 100+ yards to LBI.
Fortunately, Bob appeared at this time, I looked at the dinghy, really, really small, and
stated, "hey, it's got 3 seats, no problem!" and we eventually all boarded this really tiny
dinghy for the row in to shore. Aside from Jason, who had the bow seat, getting splashed with
almost every pull on the oars (the waves were about 9 - 12" and our free-board about 3") we
made it to shore without incident.

Crossing over to the ocean side of LBI the view was fantastic! The beach, the water, the sky
was simply breathtaking... really! We frolicked in the six foot surf for a while - fun, fun,
fun and enjoyed being pre-teens again. Now exhausted after being sufficiently beat up by the
waves, we returned to the bayside for the return trip to the boats. Since Bob had been doing
all the heavy work to this point, I volunteered to be the motor on the trip back. We set off in
very shallow water and I pulled and pulled and pulled. When about 75 percent of the way there,
I asked Jason to relieve me. The wind was pretty much holding us in the same place! Now
remember, this dinghy is really tiny, I moved to my right, Jason moved to his left and on the
count of three we changed places... well, almost changed places! At that moment we provided a
huge amount of entertainment for all those in the vicinity as we (gracefully, I hope) turned
turtle in 5' of water. It was totally hilarious. Jason said, "you know, we could have walked
back to the boats and been drier". You will be reading more on this with Bob's post. His
version should be quite interesting. There is more to report, but I'll wait until after Bob and
Jason get a chance to put in their 2 cents.

The weekend turned out to be just grand... wish more of you "Compaconauts" could have been
there (although Bob said, "just how many more do you think you could have gotten into this
dinghy?).

I spent most of this weekend working on a drywall project.. time to get the girl's room finished!  But, I really spent most of the weekend wishing that I was back down at Tice's shoals!   What a great time we had.  I posted the long version on my Adventures of Adagio page, but I owe it to Bbb to also post here and to let him know that I really appreciate the effort that he put into organizing the event.   i hope to also inspire anyone else within a reasonable distance of Barnegat Bay to make every effort to attend next year.

after being  disappointed by the weather in July which and postponing our original date, we could not have asked for nicer weather.   Marty was great company on Adagio..  Bob was a great host and guide..  and  Long beach island state park is a gem..   This was my first experience spending the night at anchor..  I am  anxiously looking forward to next year and many more nights afloat.

Unfortunately,  this was my last adventure for this year.   Adagio is scheduled to be pulled any day now..  and then there will be one more trip to button her up for the winter.   But, what a great way to say good bye to the summer!   jt

MKBLK

JT - It was great fun being crew on Adagio! I sure look forward to doing it again sometime. Pegasus isn't going to sleep for a while yet. The "project" is starting tomorrow and Pegasus' winter berth is occupied by a dump trailer! Sooo... should the occaision arise, and the weather gods be kind, perhaps I'll hit the bay again this season. I always need a crew, so consider this an open invitation. Nockamixon is doable as well.
