Last week Suzie and I rented a slip on Saratoga Lake and by the time we left we had sailed for nine consecutive days.  During that time we created many wonderful memories but one of the most positive experiences we had was meeting up with another Com-Pac owner.  Now Mike (CP-16) and I had met on the forum and we both knew that we sailed on the same lake but we had made no specific plans to meet up.  On this particular day we were sailing with our good friend, Pauline.  This is Pauline on the tiller for her first time.

We anchored in a large cove for lunch, far away from the mosh pit of power boaters who anchor and party in the same cove.

As we were setting up for lunch we did notice another sailboat set away from the PB'ers scene.
As we took a close look it sure looked like a CP-16.

As we debated about going over to introduce ourselves we saw them pulling their anchor and sure enough they motored over to us and the captain shouted out "Hey Allen.  Is that you?

So we rafted up and had a great time with Mike and his son sharing BBQ chicken, shrimp cocktail and other picnic stuff.  It was a wonderful experience to swap stories, and talk about the boats and enjoy the perfect summer day.

After we parted ways we jumped in the water for a quick swim.

Com-Pac owners are a wonderful group of people and it was fun to finally meet Mike and his son.

Later in the week we did our first night sail under the full moon and then had to do it again the next night.  The next morning when we woke up and looked out of the companionway, this was our view.

This is our first season of sailing and it is experiences like these that make me feel like we will be doing this for a long time.

Allen,

Sounds like you guys had a really good time and the weather sure looked pretty good.

I think a night sail would be nice but I don't have the experience to sail off shore at night. It would be nice to look back at the cost line and see all the lights.

Com Pac owners are few and far a part here in Calif. but the ones I have met have been great people!

great story, Allen ...  the pics really bring it to life!   it looks like you and Suzie are  getting off to a great start with the boat this season.    we were up your way this weekend ,  without the boat, but a great trip just the same..    we checked out a marina on lake Champlain and met up with my daughter and her boyfriend ( they live in vt)..  did a few tourist type things...   and just got back an hour ago.    are you guys still planning on coming down to bargegat bay?    we are all looking forward to next weekend!    hope to meet up with you there..  jt

Allen, Thanks again for the raft up, great food and nice meeting you and your crew. It was the first time I saw an Eclipse up close.

Well, since our job commitments would not let us travel to the Barnegat Bay Bash the Madame was really sulking.  So just to make her feel better we managed to get away on Saturday to go to Saratoga Lake.  The winds were "spirited" so the Madame was delighted.....Suzie... not so much.   ;)     After a couple of hours we were pleasantly surprised to meet up with Mike and his son on his CP-16 again.  We danced around on the lake together for a while as I tried not to let my inexperience embarrass me too much.

After a late lunch the winds settled to a steady 10-12 and we sailed the 4 mi. back to the marina on a brisk broad reach all the way.   As we approached the marina it was soooo difficult turning into the wind to drop the sails, knowing the season is coming to a close.   I wonder how long we can stretch out the season?  Between the receding water levels on the lakes and the chill in the air I know it is inevitable.
We took this pic on the way back.

This season has been an incredible adventure and the Madame has given us many spectacular memories to share.

We missed you guys on Barnegat bay this past weekend.   I can guarantee that you would have been thoroughly entertained!   I am certain that bob is putting together a post which will capture the essence of our experience,  so I won't say anything more that might steal his thunder.   But,  it looks like you had a wonderful time on Saratoga..  That sure is a beautiful photo.   Looking forward to catching up with you guys next year!   Jt
