Just bought my second Com-Pac 16 first one one I owned in late 90's - http://www.buildboats.com/compac16.html

New to me one is a 1981, white hull.  Sails have just been refreshed from Sail Care nice and crisp, white, new tell tails and logo and numbers.
I've built several boats, but now is time to sail.  Of course I already have a list of todo's which I'll post at my website http://www.buildboats.com along with phots as I work on her and have adventures.

Here's the photo I have from the listing and she'll be in storage till March here in Pittsburgh.  Looking forward to being part of the group here.
Look forward to asking lots of questions.

Hopefully I did the picture link correctly

I live just north of Pittsburgh (since August).  The plan is: this summer have a dock space at Moraine State Park 45 mins north and get reaquainted with the CP16 and get some projects done.  Next summer maybe do some trailer sailing. (Erie Pa, OBX and such).

hi spatan  -  welcome to the forum!    jt here -  we live in north east pa, but   went to school in pittsburgh and get back to the area from time to time - i have a college friend who lives in Gibsonia.

moraine state park should be fun - i sailed on sunfish there a couple of times in the distant past.     good luck with the upcoming sailing season - do you have any projects to work on before  the boat hits the water?    jt

JT,

Thanks for the kind welcome.  I live in Hampton right next to Gibsonia.

Ya I have two lists the one of stuff that should be done and the list of stuff I'd like to do.

Should be done list includes
new tiller, painting berths inside cabin, new mainsheet, new lazzerette hatch cover (the one now has a hole cover with some diamond Plate sheet metal.)
a good cleaning and wax on hull and topsides, rig a downhaul on jib, new motor mount for trolling motor.

sounds like fun!   i just glued up a blank for a new tiller - i have some pics on my thread..  adventures of adagio under cp23.    how long have you been in the pittsburgh area?   i went to duquesne  from 78 - 82  -  nothing like that  to attach an age !   actually i just looked up my friend Maria and her husband, and the  info that came up listed her as  50 - 55, and i said to myself. " no way"  but, of course,  they are right on the money :)

but, i have found that sailing must be tied to longevity - there are a number of folks on the site a lot older than me..  take bob 23 for instance :)  - a great guy, and the guru of barnegat bay where our boat is located..

it sounds like you might  get to the end of that punch list just as the sailing season begins..  did i see somewhere that you have also built some  boats?   that would be an interesting discussion..   have a great night..  jt

I lived in Pittsburgh area from 1991-2002, lived in NC then VA then NC and back to PA this past Aug.

I have documented my home built boats at www.buildboats.com along with a couple of restoration projects and several other builds by people I've met on the web and in person.

I'll check out your thread on the rudder!

Welcome, Spartan,

Pittsburgh, great town, been there many times.  Company I worked for, Delta International Machinery, was headquartered there, so I went up a couple of times a year.

Looking forward to following your restoration progress.

hi Tom,  thanks for sharing your  page on boat building..  looks great - i will have more time to look at it in detail this evening..   the problem with building boats is finding a time to stop!  i have two of them in my yard right now..   in addition to a factory built canoe and small sailboat..   and, i was just pouring over plans last night for a pulling boat called firefly - designed by ken bassett..   i have had those plans for years.. every once in a while i pull them out - one of these times there will be space in the basement and money in the account , and i will get back to building!    in the meantime -  it will be interesting to follow your progress..  maybe we will get out to pittsburgh this spring -  we are at the college visit stage with my step daughters so it would be fun to have her check out some of the colleges in the pittsburgh area..   jt
