Local expertise - Cape Cod Bay or Nantucket Sound?

Hi all,

So my extended family will be spending a week on Cape Cod (East Sandwich) in August.  I've never visited the Cape or sailed the area so am seeking local advice.  Finding transient dockage seems the first challenge (and pricey).  The most convenient (I think) marinas I've found are the Barnstable Town Marina and Hyannis Marina.  Any thoughts on choosing the Bay side or Sound side  for family sailing on a ComPac 19/2?

Thanks in advance,

Keith

Hi Keith:
I've had boats in both. A mooring in Scituate Harbor on Cape Cod Bay and one in Mattapoisette Harbor on Buzzard's Bay. IMHO the winds in Buzzard's Bay are more predictable coming up from the SW every afternoon in mid afternoon. The same is true for Nantucket sound. North of the cape (around Sandwich) doesn't have the same sailing conditions.
Have a great trip where ever you decide. Just stay away from the Canal bridges at the start and end of any summer weekend.
