Need suggestions as how to add all-round light on cp 16. Already have masthead and all others needed. I doubt this is a do it myself project as the top of the mast is sealed with rivets.

Deb,

Although I don't have a Com-Pac 16, I have had several sailboats small and large, and wanted to share some thoughts with you.

If you decide to mount the all-round light at the masthead, don't be intimidated by those pesky rivets. Most mast head fixtures and boom ends/goosenecks are fixed in place with one or more rivets. They can be drilled out releasing the fixture. They are most likely stainless but could be aluminim. If stainless you need to use a hard Cobalt Steel drill bit. Once you're finished mounting the fixture replace the masthead fitting making sure the rivet holes are aligned and replace the rivets using an inexpensive Rivet Tool. It's not difficult. Rivets of all kinds, Cobalt Steel Bits, and a Rivet Tool can be found at local Hardware Stores.

I've had my Rivet Tool for years and have used it often on my boats when a rivet will do the job in lieu of drilling and tapping for a threaded machine screw. You shouldn't use regular sheet metal screws in the thin walls of booms and masts.

You can do it Deb! Good luck with your all-round light. Let us know how it turned out.
