Anyone ever try to put a CP-23 on a different trailer. My beloved CP-23 sank in Irene. I don't have a trailer. The salvage company will get it to there marina and put it on any trailer I can get. I few guys at my club have offered there trailers. Catalina 22's oday's, rhodes. etc. anyone have any luck with those? I only need to get about 3 miles from marina to club.

Thanks Kenny

I can't help with the trailer question, but  I am sorry to hear of your dilemma.    I hope that you are able to recover the boat and get her back in shape in relatively quick time.  good luck!  jt

Billy

Not sure how the other trailers are, but all you need for the Com-Pac is something for the keel to sit on rollers or a keel bunk, and hull bunks to keep it from tipping over. I would bet these trailers will work.

You will need to adjust the bunks but if the trailer is strong enough to support the weight of a Catalina or Oday should be fine. after all 3 miles is not very far.

Sorry to hear about your boat. How did it sink? did the scuppers get plugged? or was/is there damage to the hull?

Kenny - Sorry to hear about your 23. You may not need a trailer right away. Ask the salvage company to temporarily put her on crutches in their yard (they may charge extra for that) and try contacting any boat-transport company in your area (or Google "boat transport"). Then make arrangements for them to transfer the boat to where you plan for her to be restored. Talk to your club or marina as many would have the means to arrange for the transfer of a boat by land as well as have available temporary crutches or cradles. Beware of informal arrangements with salvors. Be informed about salvage laws and liens that may apply and have an upfront contract.

Under what circumstances did Irene cause your boat to sink?

The boat is up out of the water and back to my club. The dock is what failed. I was in the first slip next to the sea wall. The days leading up to Irene, I bought new lines, Extra fenders, Large Buoys and snubbers. The tide came up 4 Feet above the bulkhead, The dock Ramp Broke off in front of the boat and my finger busted from the dock. There is no damage from the dock, so the protection I put in place worked. It's because the dock failed. After the finger broke the boat was able to pass out over the bulkhead. It bounced up and down on the Pylings and got a large hull puncture about 15" in the shape of a smiley face. Well needless to say. I'm not smiling. Once the front of the boat had turned farther and back out over open water she sank like a stone almost facing completely backwards. The only lines holding the boat when I found her are the rear spring line and aft line both port side. It also lost the rub rail on port side around the cockpit, the motor was smashed to hell and destroyed bouncing on our neighbors boat if you can imagine the boat working it's aft around the pole and the engine hitting the neighbors boat. It's ugly. The boat is on land now just a few feet from the wet slip in Island Park NY...

Thank you for the account. It looks that in spite of the major damage there might still be a sailing future for your boat. I trust that will be also be the decision of the insurance companies that may be involved...

Best of lucks,

Kenny:
I am sooo sorry to hear of this. I can just imagine how you feel. If there is anything I (we) can do, please don't hesitate to ask. I don't know what, but ask away. Are your sails ok? if not and you are able to salvage the boat, I'd be willing to give you my old main. Vintage 1985 but it still moved the boat and is in better than good shape.

Hey Thanks for all the well wishing folks... I really appreciate it. I will let you know how things go. Right now were just in a wait and see position. I will post some pictures of before and after the storm when the time is right.

Grab some ply wood, some old rugs, a sharp knife, a gig saw, a skill saw, a drill with bit and some long 3/8" carriage bolts with flat washers, nuts, wrenches and some 4 x 4's and cypher out a quick cradle. Should build in half a day. Find a double axle 16 foot flat bed trailer and have them sling her into the cradle on the trailer. Tow it away with your car.

skip.

Never mind then. Unless you want to get ready for the next storm.

Hey Skip, Thanks she's already back at my club. Found a guy around the corner who was able to take care of the whole job.
