Hey Folks, Wishing everyone on the East Coast safe boats and good luck during Hurricane Irene. I was down at the dock in Island Park, NY today. I added some dock lines and a few extra fenders and a large 18" buoy to help keep the rockin' and rollin' to a minimum. Our Cp-23 is pretty well protected where we are, tucked away in a back area. I'm still nervous... good luck to all

thanks, Kenny:
I moved my 1985 23 out from her very unprotected mooring in Barnegat Bay, NJ to a somewhat protected slip at a marina. With a storm this size, there are no guarantees. I'll be down there today adding springlines and trying to prepare for the 5 to 8 foot tiday surge they're predicting.

Here in central NC we aren't forecast to get much impact, but after our experience with Fran in 1996 we are painfully aware of how far inland a big storm is capable of coming - and Irene looks like a really big storm. I imagine all the coastal sailors in the Oriental area are pretty busy right now - they are forecast to get smacked hard tomorrow. Our worst problem here is all the trees, which have a nasty habit of falling down when the wind and rain get heavy. I will be moving Bella (and our cars) out of the tree-lined driveway tomorrow.
